Perhaps the "Billy Graham Rule" is not such a bad idea after all!

For those of us with short memories this is what it said

The Billy Graham rule is a code of conduct for male evangelical Protestant leaders that states they should not spend time alone with women they are not married to. The rule is also known as the Modesto Manifesto.

The rule was created by Billy Graham's team to help evangelists avoid temptations. It's intended to show integrity, avoid sexual temptation, and avoid accusations of sexual harassment or assault.
 
If a liberal compromiser came up with that rule, no wonder Jackie boy and others of his ilk stood their ground and refused to follow this rule.
 
my personal rule is that i never go into a situation where i am alone with a man who is not my dad... . and... i also never let anyone male or female.. other than close family members.. get close enough to touch me..... if they move towards me i move away and always have...... to observers it makes for some humorous looking meetings when somebody i;m talking to is persistent on closing the gap and i keep turning and moving to make it wider... ....but that;s a rule i keep to for both my safety and theirs.... i don;t react well to being touched without permission.... and i rarely give it....
 
When the panickdemic first broke out, "social distancing" was being touted... I remember standing in the check out line at a grocery store, people were observing the 6' rule. I thought to myself, "this is a crisis?"

Truth be known, I practiced social distancing long before it was cool.
 
I thought that was the Lee Roberson rule? I remember when he was speaking to men at HAC and he told the story of going on a hospital visit. As he was leaving he ran into his wife who was there with other women and they were done. Lee said he came alone to the hospital and he was leaving alone. That's right, he wouldn't even take his wife with him. He also said he would never pick up a male hitchhiker who had long hair. As far as I know, he left this earth with an impeccable reputation.
 
Mike Pence was excoriated when it was revealed that he and his wife followed the Billy Graham rule. I thought it spoke well of them.

And so did some of the women who worked him. I remember reading one op-ed by a former employee who said it made for a good work environment.

He didn't come up with the rule. It's just something he practiced and others took notice of.

I'd hardly call Billy a liberal compromiser. He was not a separatist, but he believed in Inspiration and inerrancy.

"In his autobiography, Just As I Am, Rev. Graham recounts when a friend told him he couldn’t trust the authenticity of the Bible.

“I got up and took a walk. The moon was out. The shadows were long in the San Bernardino Mountains surrounding the retreat center. Dropping to my knees there in the woods, I opened the Bible at random on a tree stump in front of me. I could not read it in the shadowy moonlight, so I had no idea what text lay before me… Now it was an altar where I could only stutter into prayer.
The exact wording of my prayer is beyond recall, but it must have echoed my thoughts, “O God! There are many things in this book I do not understand. There are many problems with it for which I have no solution. There are many seeming contradictions. There are some areas in it that do not seem to correlate with modern science. I can’t answer some of the philosophical and psychological questions Chuck and others are raising.”
I was trying to be on the level with God, but something remained unspoken. At last the Holy Spirit freed me to say it, “Father, I am going to accept this as Thy Word – by faith! I’m going to allow faith to go beyond my intellectual question and doubts, and I will believe this to be Your inspired Word.”
When I got up from my knees at Forest Home that August night, my eyes stung with tears. I sensed the presence and power of God as I had not sensed it in months. Not all my questions were answered, but a major bridge had been crossed. In my heart and mind, I knew a spiritual battle in my soul had been fought and won.

Throughout the rest of his ministry, Billy Graham always pointed back to what the Bible had to say as the inerrant Word of God. He once said, “One can approach the Bible with a cold, rationalistic attitude, or one can do so with reverence and the desire to hear God speak.”"

I was being factious...

I have great respect for the man and his ministry. It's about the only remaining ministry of this scale that hasn't been rocked with any scandal.

Hearing about Steve Lawson was an absolute gut punch for me.

There had been stories about Steve Lawson for several years. I knew it would eventually catch up to him. Being right here in the area where David Baker and Dave Hyles and the "ministries" that they had has been more of the concern for people in this area. Someone asked me to go to their sites, and Dave Hyles' site for the ministries is blank...nothing..nada. It's been like that for several days now. I don't know what's going on there, but, someone from Columbia, Tennessee said that they believe Dave is going to be going elsewhere...possibly to Florida, New Mexico, or AZ...I don't know...not really concerned with where he goes. The charges against David Baker were dropped because of his suicide.
