And each time someone throws it in his face, he can tell how God rescued him and can do the same for others. And no one could replay and observe his past sins over and over.

I would have to know him for a few years not months too really see him in action with people. I'm in shock but I would check in once in awhile to see how the church is going.I have to say, I’m not sure I could attend a church with a pastor who was a former porn star, but maybe that’s a downfall on my part. What do y’all think?
I would have to say no, I don’t think I’d give my blessing. For me to give my blessing, I’d have to request a very long engagement of probably an unreasonable amount of time—not a year like many people, but probably three years minimum, and I’d inform him that he’d be under a microscope the entire time. But even then, I’d never be comfortable with the marriage.i am actually more interested to see if someone here would want their daughter to marry this guy..
And no one could replay and observe his past sins over and over.
gross sin in a persons life does not exclude them from being used of God or even becoming a full time servant of God.... but there are many ways to serve God other than holding the churches highest and most important earthly position....
He got a Bible degree from Liberty University. I’m curious to know if he would have faced some sort of scrutiny before being allowed to enroll as a student, particularly a Bible student. I know Liberty isn’t Pensacola or HAC, but it’s still a pretty conservative college.I would wager this ex-porn star was distrusted, too, until they put him under scrutiny and he passed the test. Don't assume his church didn't wrestle with this issue and have that kind of questions for him before calling him.
verse 7 comes to mind.... not saying it;s an outright disqualifcation if he has been saved and serving God in other ways for a number of years.... ....and others might have no problem with him.... like i asked in a previos post - would anyone be comfortable with this guy marrying their daughter?..... ..if the answer to that is yes.... then that;s fine..... i would respect their decision to go to a church he pastored...... ..... but personally it would be very hard for me to trust him.....The Bible has qualifications for elders (1 Tim. 3:1-7). Which ones has he violated that would disqualify him?
at first glance i would say neither one of them do...... .... the first one who was a former porn star might never gain my trust.... .. but with regards to the single man who dated 5 women it would depend on how intense those dates were...... .....and what his reasons were for not pursuing marriage....... but again that is just my personal observation.....For example, who better exemplifies the character of a one-woman man: a porn star who was once promiscuous, but since Christ found him, he has either been exclusively faithful to his wife or chastely single; or a single man who has dated five women in recent years but never made a move to marry any of them?
Thank you!!! A very appropriate scripture. Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old things have passed away; behold, the new has come into being. 2 Corinthians 5:17
What Scripture would you cite for disqualification?Based on my understanding of the Bible, Broome isn’t unqualified to hold the office of pastor. He’s accepted Jesus into his life, he’s gotten a Bible degree from a Christian college, gotten married, etc. Still, I don’t think I could ever sit in church and not look up at the pulpit and not view the man going buck wild on dirty films!
I said he’s not unqualified. But my understanding of qualifications is from 1 Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:5-9. My understanding is his debauchery took place before salvation. I believe once saved, the slate is wiped clean. Do you believe otherwise? What Scripture would you cite for disqualification?
I'm not talking about trust. I'm talking about the accessability of the pornographic material and how it may reflect on the church. They can read Acts 8 and 9. Twice, if they want.
They can also read Paul's own confession (Gal. 1:11-24), his regret for his past actions (1 Cor. 15:9), and how the church in Jerusalem distrusted him until Barnabas vouched for him to the apostles (Acts 9:26:30).
Their conclusion? "They [heard] it said, 'He who used to persecute us is now preaching the faith he once tried to destroy.' And they glorified God because of me" (Gal. 1:23-24).
I would wager this ex-porn star was distrusted, too, until they put him under scrutiny and he passed the test. Don't assume his church didn't wrestle with this issue and have that kind of questions for him before calling him.
Moreover he must have a good report of them which are without; 1 Tim. 3:7What Scripture would you cite for disqualification?
Here's how it might reflect on the church: one bad dude heard and believed the gospel message that the church preaches. The dude was radically transformed. Do you need deliverance from your sins? Come hear the message that delivered this bad dude.I'm not talking about trust. I'm talking about the accessability of the pornographic material and how it may reflect on the church.
My mistake, I misread your statement. We agree.I said he’s not unqualified. But my understanding of qualifications is from 1 Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:5-9. My understanding is his debauchery took place before salvation. I believe once saved, the slate is wiped clean. Do you believe otherwise?
