It's possible that Mr. Putin could do this, but, would it truly benefit him if he did? I think he's getting a little ahead of himself in his frustration that the invasion of Ukraine hasn't gone as he planned. He thought it would be over in days, or at the longest, a few weeks.

I’m no Putin supporter, but I’m sorry, I really don’t trust anything the media says about this war. I believe the media is doing the bidding of the government and keeping up public opinion on how well this war is going as an excuse to keep pumping out billions of dollars worth of US made missiles; i.e, keep the war machine churning. Russia has no qualms about keeping a war going for decades if need be.
