Record low number of Americans now drink alcohol.

I'm starting to see restaurants offering "mocktails". These aren't just virgin daiquiris... They are bar creations without the alcohol... cool and refreshing and lots of different flavors. One mocktail I had recently had ginger beer with lime and other flavors. It was sweet and tart and went down very well on a hot day.

No alcohol, but I bet enough sugar to send a person into a diabetic coma!

I wonder if there is a correlation between this and the decriminization and acceptance of the use of marijuana?

or are the Baptists actually "winning?"

I have stayed in a few ‘all inclusive resorts’ that included free alcohol in the deal. I learned to order ‘virgin’ drinks. They were delicious but, as Huk pointed out I’m sure full of sugar and calories.

More like I'm not going to buy a bottle of beer for $6-7. I like beer, but not enough to pay it alimony.

Same sugar content as the other stuff... Only no alcohol.

Look not thou upon the wine when it is red, when it giveth his colour in the cup, when it moveth itself aright and dontchaknow Wine is a mocker, strong drinke is raging: and whosoeuer is deceiued thereby, is not wise.

HAY-UH-MEN!?!

Can I get a witness? ...

I see that hand!

😁

The last IPA I had was amber, actually. Shiner Bock (my favorite on the rare occasion that I will actually partake) is more of an amber brown.

There's a popular Canadian ale called Rickard's Red. That might be cause for concern, but fortunately it's actually just a dark amber.

Not judging just musing out loud, does this fall under "Abstain for all appearance of evil" or does it fall under more cool drink options.

I would not want others to think I was drinking an alcoholic coctail, but I also think I might enjoy these new drinks. Are they in a regular glass or coctail glass.? Are they expensive or about the same as softdrinks? Refills? Could they lead someone to want to try an actual cocktail. All just thinking out loud, no judgment of any kind intended.

For some reasen I'm suprised you drink. Is your view on the matter, within moderation or what is your view pertaining drinking.

Eph 5:18 Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise.

Proverbs 20:1 KJV. Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise.

Isaiah 5:22 - Woe unto them that are mighty to drink wine, and men of strength to mingle strong drink:

Proverbs 23:31 Look not thou upon the wine when it is red, when it giveth his colour in the cup, when it moveth itself aright.

Habakkuk 2:15 Woe unto him that giveth his neighbour drink, that puttest thy bottle to him, and makest him drunken also, that thou mayest look on their nakedness!

Should I avoid drinking coca cola because I'm afraid someone will think I put a shot of rum in it?

I have completely lost all desire to consume alcohol for a number of reasons. None of which is the appearance of evil or some preacher railing against it. Anyone who knows me and knows I am a believer knows if I have a glass of anything, it's zero proof.

If I'm sipping a mocktail, I am doing so at a restaurant. I don't care to sit at a bar.

makes sense.

Should I "abstain from the appearance of evil" by avoiding the drugstore, because while I just need more aspirin, as a single guy, someone might see me and think I was buying condoms?

(That verse is talking about scrutinizing true and false teachers in any case, not keeping away from looking evil.)

My view is the biblical one: that God gave wine to people (Psa. 104:15); that wine was a staple beverage in all the cultures where the Bible was written, and its manufacture and use was simply assumed as a fact; that Jesus himself not only drank wine (Matt. 11:19; Matt. 26:27; 1 Cor. 11:19), but his first miracle was making an abundance of it to help a new bride and groom save face (John 2). Wine is specifically commended in the Bible for four purposes: celebration (Deut. 14:26), appreciation (Luke 5:39), medicine (1 Tim. 5:23), and worship (1 Cor. 11:23-33).

There are, of course, numerous warnings in the Bible about the abuse and overuse of wine, which you were kind enough to quote for me, so I won't repeat them.

I live in a relatively small community and Pastored here for 43 years. I do not believe drinking alcohol is a sin and have preached and taught as much. However, most people here believe differently and I would not drink publicly here for the sake of the ‘weaker brother’ and my reputation and influence.

For the record, I do not and have not chosen to drink at all for my own personal (not Biblical) reasons.
