"No Christian with half a brain would support religious freedom!"

Really? Religious freedom in America was championed and won by Baptists, i.e., John Leland.

The idea that we needed to have religious liberty was no reject our nation from having an established religion.

Thoughts?

As with anything in the realm of interpretation, context means everything. So, for more nuanced context, see this.

It essentially says what any good pre-millennialist would say, although I agree that the statement on its face, and taken out of context, seems not very baptistic. I think we can say with confidence that McCarthur was not a theonomist in a reconstructionist vein though.

I'd need to see more context then a single soundbite. My guess is he meant in the modernist sense of religious pluralism.

MacArthur certainly enjoyed a certain amount of religious freedom through his friendships with men like John Piper and R. C. Sproul, and the whole legal battle during the pandemic was over the constitutional freedom to practice religion without interference.
