Russel Brand and Turning Point USA

Was it a wise decision to include Russell Brand in a TPUSA event? Yes, he's denying allegations of events which occurred 20-25 years ago when he said he "...was an imbecile..." But would TPUSA be better off letting his legal issues play out before bringing him to an event?

BTW, just looking at articles about him (when I should be getting ready for work) he seems to be kinda weird, even now. I'd never heard of him until his conversion to Christianity last year.

Me and you rarely disagree brother, and I see the reasoning for your statement here. But at the risk of sounding a little bit potentially irreverent, I bet all those disciples was questioning whether to let Paul in the inner circle at first too.

Would I let Brand stand in our pulpit teach? Probably not, under some of the reasoning inherent to your argument, but I don't think it's necessary to preclude him from civic speaking, other than a potential calculated P.R. risk to the organization's momentum.

You are correct in reading into my reasoning a more ecclesiastical tone but that comes from a gospel sharing approach which TPUSA tends to favor along with it's civil discourse.

Brand is there because his celebrity status is a draw.

His testimony is nothing extraordinary, and, frankly, would seem more genuine to me if he stayed out of the spotlight.

True, which is one aspect of TPUSA that makes me a little leery. And that's not much different than churches that go for the rock-star cult of personality stuff.
