Patterson is "removed" from the presidency of Southwestern. Not really.

The 100+ year old seminary is looking for the next president now.

I heard him preach a couple times as a kid.......... good preacher from a distance; idk much about him now though.

As a SBC Pastor this whole thing bothers me.  If he was so wrong that he needed to be removed from being the President of the Seminary, then his appointment as an Emeritus and the large compensation package are not warranted.

Totally Agree. I am disappointed in this decision! Hard to defend and makes us look stupid!

Rod Dreher, my favourite apostate, wrote this:

It occurs to me that the seminary trustees have activated what you might call the Cardinal Law Option, making Patterson the equivalent of Archpriest of a major Roman basilica. This gives him a way to save face (they think) and to be taken care of. The thing is, John Paul II?s moving Cardinal Law to that cush sinecure in Rome struck very many people as an injustice. This Southern Baptist seminary move will have the same effect, I think.

I don't think he's wrong, and I think the SBC should be better.

Was he accused of abuse or immorality?

No. He wrote a blog 18 years ago regarding his advice to a woman who was being abused by her husband to not divorce him. He said it was perfectly acceptable to leave him, but she should not be the one filing for divorce. As he believes the only biblically valid reason for a divorce is adultery, which she was not alleging, her divorcing him, according to Dr. Patterson's understanding, was out of the question. In view of his stand on divorce, what else could he say? Leave him. Let him divorce her.

As to the allegation that he made sexually suggestive comments to a woman regarding her physique, it is entirely untrue. What he did say while preaching on Genesis 2:22 was that God "made" Eve from the rib of Adam. The Hebrew word translated "made" is ?????? (ba?na?h) and means "to build." He remarked that Eve was "built" and got a laugh. Some radical feminists may have thought it to be slightly inappropriate but it certainly did not rise to the level of sexual harassment.

This is nothing more than a move by a very left leaning (theologically) woman trying to remove Dr. Patterson from leadership in order to undo some of the accomplishments of the Conservative Resurgence in the SBC as regards the seminaries. (He was President of SEBTS prior to coming to SWBTS.) By the way, the woman was hit by a bus a couple days after sending the letter to the Board of Regents that started the whole thing. I know some IFBx "preechers" who could make a mountain out of that molehill! :D

In 2014, Paige Patterson told a joke.
He was giving a speech at an evangelical conference in Las Vegas. With a broad Texas drawl and a folksy glint in his eye, he told the story of an irate woman he encountered during a church service.

?She was really unhappy with me,? he said, with exaggerated self-deprecation. ?And giving me what for.?

Meanwhile, her sons were standing nearby. While the woman was yelling at Patterson, ?a very attractive coed? walked by.

?She couldn?t have been more than 16,? Patterson continued. ?But let me say ? she was nice.?

One of the sons commented to the other, ?Man, is she built.? The mother in this story was appalled. ?She stopped, wheeled around, slapped a hand over his mouth, loosed his teeth, and said, ?Young man, if you ever say anything like that again; if you do, I?ll mop up the face of the earth with you.??

?I saw my opportunity,? Patterson said. He tells the mother: ?He?s just being biblical.?

His audience laughed and applauded.

After all, Patterson implied, the biblical Eve was beautiful too, artistically formed. What?s the harm in a young man following Adam?s example?

In the 2000 recording, Patterson tells the story of a woman who came to him about abuse, and how he counseled her to pray for God to intervene. The woman, he said, came to him later with two black eyes. ?She said: ?I hope you?re happy.? And I said ?Yes ? I?m very happy,? ? because her husband had heard her prayers and come to church for the first time the next day.

These are not overt displays but truly revelatory of his heart. He is nothing more than a predator, grooming his audiences to accept patriarchy by selling (perhaps even accurately) as a "biblical", healthy lifestyle as well as the acceptance of the sexual objectification of women. He should have been fired long ago but then again, the SBC is corrupt to the core and had to struggle to finally pass a vote to denounce white supremacy just last year.

Keep it up.  I'm sure you'll replace Dreher as his favorite.

As much as I do not like Patterson, he doesn't deserve to "disappear". This is not like Harvey Weinstein or a Morgan Freeman, maybe it is close to a Matt Damon (who caught controversy for making comments).

Only if I start to go senile and find the ad nauseam repetitions of "But Trump is a sexual predator" and "new Jim Crow" amusing.

I?m sure you?re his favorite cut and paste, repeat inane liberal talking points apostate.
Plus, Hyles didn?t do a number on Dreher, so you have that going for you.

Since I've never heard of the guy, I doubt that is the case.

It really bugs you when someone thinks outside the confines of your supremacist theology. It really seems to bother you when you can't be in control of another's theological thought process.

I wasn?t aware that one could be in control of anyone but his or her self.
I didn?t attend Hyles Anderson... ;)

I didn't mean you DID control, but rather try to control or manipulate and it bothers you to be. Hence your attempts at personal jabs at those with whom you disagree politically and/or theologically, in an effort to disempower them. Guilt-baiting, consistent criticism, "intellectual bullying", insisting personal opinion is the only correct viewpoint (even in theology), passive-aggressive commentary and making claim to being victimized by those who hold other ideals are key signs you exhibit in attempts to control or manipulate.

Or they could just be bully tactics to boost your own ego by belittling those with whom you disagree.

So yes, Hyles-Anderson did teach me something: how to recognize manipulation tactics. :)

So it bugs you that I keep bringing up sexual assault and white supremacy. Since these seem to be sensitive points with you, I recommend a little introspection.

I've said it before and I'll say it again.......... Heb 6:4-6 is a road of no return
