As an evangelical conservative, I'm in general theological agreement with Geisler. His argument though for why Patterson's firing was mistaken is based too much on perceived damage to evangelical conservatives. Geisler notes that "[Patterson's] departure in this manner will send a strong and wrong signal, namely, one of encouragement to the less-conservative movement in the country." This should not be a consideration.

Was there more than one accusation of rape at the seminary involving separate women? Geisler mentions that Patterson doesn't recall meeting with a woman in accusation 1. Then he did meet with a woman and two of her family members in accusation 2.

Oh I agree Doc...I am SBC, and I fear that they wanted their cake and eat it to...I called for them to step up to the plate and not try to do something halfway.  I want them to be accountable for their decisions. Not all "facts" are facts...that's for sure. But in today's climate facts don't matter, just that someone accused someone. These are sad and pathetic times.

My question is, are they attacking the messenger because she didn't have "permission" to post the documents or are they just upset their narrative has been exposed as false?

I have no dog in this hunt, but it sounds to me like someone is willing to destroy a life to appear to be "politically expedient".  We live in a sad and dangerous time when decisions of such magnitude have to be made in an instant.

Culture and religious beliefs often reinforce the silence. Women and children are taught they must be submissive, even to the point of accepting abuse. Men are commended for being macho as they exert power. Patterson sent a bruised and battered woman back to her abusive husband. He encouraged young men to objectify women. He covered up a rape case. This isn?t a ?misinterpretation? of complementarianism. The silence shows that such behavior is natural outgrowth of putting one?s faith in a theory of male dominance rather than Jesus.

It remains to be seen if everything she claims Patterson did, was actually done...that's the point.  But it doesn't matter because her definition of the senerio fits her feminist progressive agenda.
