Should atheists be allowed to marry?

That is a silly symbolic law. So easy to work around it. Practically anyone could set up a "church" and start a lucrative career signing marriage docs. Easy-peasy.

The courts are going to overturn it anyway.

That is shocking. I thought it was a joke at first. I agree with ABY

Anyhow, great thread. I don't think God recognizes athiests marriages only because he's already damned them. So even if it is sin it really makes no difference in the whole scheme of things. They'll just be punished for that sin too, along with the others

There are many couples who cannot marry due to the Social Security rules which penalize them. It's a serious health issue for many people so they are left with no choice but living together. In our new church we're attending (not members yet) there are two couples which fall under this category. They were married by a Christian Pastor/Elder but do not hold a marriage license.

I say more power to them. Let couples live as husband and wife considering a Christian Elder married them and the union does not conflict with any of Gods laws. By that measure, we were not married by a Christian but an Athiest. In which we were not Christians so it would've been weird otherwise. So how that fits in, well who knows. But my guess is after salvation, the slate is wiped clean. Every bit
