Some wimp churches canceled Watch Night services.

Tonight's Watch Night service is our Sunday service.

The church I grew up in had a watch night service every year no matter what day of the week it fell on. If it was on Sunday, we had the regular evening service, and then the folks could go home or stay and fellowship at church with snacks, music, etc., until the midnight festivities were to begin, and the youth went on their New Years outing to the skating rink or the bowling alley. I sort of miss those days. Not many churches are still doing these kinds of things.

The watch night services I attended in IFBx Churches usually ended early (around 9 or so) and was where the "Mannagawd" would "Cast his Vision" for the following year.

I think they wanted us home before midnight so we could "Abstain from all appearance of evil" and not give people the impression that we were out "carousing" like everyone else in the world.

Some of us young "Preecher Boys" would get together sometime at someone's home or apartment and take turns "Preeching in" the new year!

Did y’all really get together on New Year’s Eve and preach in the new year at midnight?

Ewwww! I'm glad I was never in one of those types of services. Most in our area were singing in the new year, and the youth from many of the IFB/IB churches in our area would go to Delevan, IL to bowl, or to the roller rink in Pekin or Tremont. We usually got home by 7 AM on New Year's day.
I've NEVER been in a church that had the "Manna-Gawd" preaching the new year in. I'm so thankful for that because most of them ended up being full of crap!

That is as big of a sacrilege as no Sunday am service on Christmas Day!
Is no one walking the old paths today??
Sacrilege? As much as I think it can be good to meet on Christmas I wouldn't make it a criteria in judging a groups spirituality. The issue is do they still meet together for times of interaction and fellowship where they strengthen one another in the faith. If it's consistent they do then I wouldn't hold a certain day must be observed. Granted I think there's a cancelling of what too much. Summer times comes and many seek to downscale all their activity. By the time September rolls around they're really in a weakened spiritual condition.

That guy you are responding to uses sarcasm pretty heavily, his tongue was firmly planted in his cheek. He was making fun of the old-school hard-core fundamentalist attitude that thinks that tradition trumps a churches ability to operate under the doctrine of the priesthood of the believer.

Sarcasm on the FFF!? Say it ain't so!

Hard to believe I know , but next thing coming down the pike will be people calling each other names and stuff, like pink tea sipping liberal, Tulip-sniffer, and stuff like that. Mark it down.😎

😁

We would have a watch night service as long as it was not on soul winning night, visitation night, mid week service night, mission society night, small groups night, prayer meeting night, Sat choir practice night, hospital, shut in & nursing home ministry night or street preaching and homeless ministry night or food pantry night.

I would have included bus calling night but everyone knows bus calling starts bright and early on Sat morning and ends by 6pm (unless your an extreme Hacker).
