The honorable Rev. FSSL said:
Flipping through a hymnal, in my teens, I found the Apostolic creed and wondered why in the world it was in a BAPTIST hymnal. Isn't that something Catholics, Lutherans and Presbyterians do?
We never read from it or even acknowledged that it existed. I went through Bible College and never heard any creed addressed. Why? Why have Baptists, of today, become unaware of and ignored the value of these creeds? A person with even the minimal amount of interest in Baptist/Church history will certainly be aware of how these creeds defended our beliefs.
Robert Torbet, Church historian wrote:
Creeds...
...Maintain purity of doctrine
...Clarify and validate the Baptist position
...To serve as a guide to the General Assembly or local association in counseling churches
...To serve as a basis for fellowship within associations
...To discipline churches and members by withdrawing fellowship.
With that knowledge... why have Bible College teachers ignored them? Why is there an antipathy against them?
