"Soul Winning" using the Hell vs Heaven tactic. What do you use to share faith?

I was able to give the gospel to someone this week.

I told this person that if they do not see themselves as deserving to go to hell, then they are not ready for salvation.

I also told them that many people come to church for the first time maybe in many many years and they see all these people and it looks like they have life together and they say to themselves, I want this.

I told them the problem is, many people want their lives and problems fixed but do not want God or to have God rule and reign over every area of their lives, they just want their lives put back together.

I told this person, yes faith but also a hearts desire to follow Jesus in every area of their life with no exceptions.

If I remember correctly, I never mentioned heaven.

Did you end the conversation with, "Smile, God loves you!"?

Of course, I explained why Jesus died on the cross and rose from from the dead as the final sacrifice for our sin.

I'm sorry you missed the sarcasm in my post.

America is very comfortable in going to hell because everyone tells them , "Smile, God loves you".

And He, when He comes, will convict the world concerning sin, righteousness and judgment; concerning sin because they do not believe in Me; and concerning righteousness, because I go to the Father and you no longer see Me; and concerning judgment, because the ruler of this world has been judged (John 16:8?11).

Ah, you beat me to it... I was going to look up that verse and post it here.

There are instances in Scripture where men are convicted by their own conscience (the men gathered to stone the woman caught in adultery comes to mind), but our conscience is not a good guide - there are men without conscience, and the Bible talks about having a conscience that is "seared".

Prophet is getting sidetracked on his mission of warning the world of the coming Antichrist.

The gospel presentation never focused on the sinner's selfishness: Here! Do you want to go to heaven? Say this prayer!  The gospel presentations ALWAYS started with God's utter holiness and the sinfulness of man.

Good stuff.

I have just gotten around to reading the rest of this thread. Walt, do you mind if I borrow (steal) this?

Jn 16:8 ? Jn 16:11
And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: Of sin, because they believe not on me; Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more; Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged.

Jn 16:8 ? Jn 16:11
And when he is come he will rebuke ye worlde of synne and of rightwesnes and of iudgement. Of synne because they beleve not on me: Of rightwesnes because I go to my father and ye shall se me no moare: and of iudgement because the chefe ruler of this worlde is iudged all ready.

Jn 16:8 ? Jn 16:11
And whanne he cometh, he schal repreue the world of synne, and of riytwisnesse, and of doom. Of synne, for thei han not bileued in me; and of riytwisnesse, for Y go to the fadir, and now ye schulen not se me; but of doom, for the prince of this world is now demed.

Reproof comes from without (through the believers, in this passage, since the Spirit coming to THEM, is the context).

Conviction is from within.

The Spirit does not dwell within unregenerate man, and that natural man cannot commune with Him anyway.

The rebuke/reproof of the World's sins, in this passage, is through the believers.
The change in our lives, the obedience to Christ, and the love of one another, are a rebuke to the cold, sinful World.

earnestly contend

Nice try to leave the Holy Spirit out of His obvious work. Whether the word is  "rebuke/reprove" or "convict," the Holy Spirit actively works on the unbeliever to convince them that sin is wrong.

Unbelievers do not develop conviction of sin from within themselves without the work of the Holy Spirit. They are dead.

What you teach is an outright attack on election. It is a doctrine that the world hates because they can't conceive that man is totally depraved and left to his own devices he would never come to God.  Without the intervention of the Holy Spirit no person would be saved.

Romans 3:9-12

9 What then? Are we better than they? Not at all. For we have previously charged both Jews and Greeks that they are all under sin.

10 As it is written:

?There is none righteous, no, not one;
11
There is none who understands;
There is none who seeks after God.
12
They have all turned aside;
They have together become unprofitable;
There is none who does good, no, not one.?

prophet said:
...he will reprove the world of sin

So, prophet... what does the word "reprove" mean and what exactly is the Holy Spirit doing when He "reproves?"

I got saved mainly because I realized I was a sinner and based on the Bible I was not qualified to go to heaven. I was a sinner who was born into sin.
Romans 3:23-26
Romans 3:10-18
Romans 5:19

I also realized based on the Bible and the Holy Spirit that there is a penalty on sin.
Romans 6:23
Matthew 25:46
Romans 5:12

I also learned, and believed that Jesus paid the price so I could go to Heaven and he offers salvation to whosoever will.
John 3:15-17
Ephesians 2:8-9
Romans 10
John 3:16
1 Tim 2
I kind of understood that as Jesus came into my heart to live, salvation was only the beginning of a relationship that would last until I get to Heaven. Someone explained, because my sin?s had been forgiven, the next step was to get baptized and to start down a road of service for him. It took time for me to grow as a Christian and learn all that God expected. That process started when I decided to ask Jesus into my heart and take me to Heaven when I die.

The Spirit is indwelling believers.

It is the conversation of the believer that reproves the world of Sin.

"When he is come"...where?
Into the world?
He was always here:

Genesis 1:2
And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.

John 16 is of course referring to Pentecost, and the ensuing results of "my Spirit ...poured out on all flesh".

When He is come unto you, (the disciples, the church, all believers),
He will ....

Notice that it is about the believers

"Because ye see me no more..."

Why would the Apostles not seeing Jesus anymore have anything to do with the work of the Holy Ghost of God?

Only one right answer:
The testimony of faith, as Gamaliel said: of those whose leader is gone, is the reproof of the World.
We follow someone whom, now, none of us have ever met.
Faith is the evidence of things not seen.
( Not to the person who has the faith, that would be illogical, but to the rest of the World)
Nicodemus missed this in his late night discussion with Jesus.
We , the believers, are the trees through which the wind of God blows, that the unbeliever views, and knows something unseen is there.

Your TULIPs are an outright attack on the Scriptures, and have been since before they were born, when Augustine was just a wacky philosopher.

What do you mean, nice try?

Have you not read?:

John 8:9
And they which heard it, being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, even unto the last: and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst.

The passage says He will reprove/convict the world of sin... it doesn't say anything else

Is this taught at Hyles?

That doesn't stand alone.

It is in a list, in which the reference "and ye see me no more..." falls.

It is a vital part of the context.
