I'm reading J.D. Greear's book now and so far I agree with his premise.
Anybody here read the book or had occasion to address this 'issue'?

2 Things.
1. He's not a Baptist. So you shouldn't pay any attention to what he says.
2. He's fascinated with "repentance". When I hear someone talking about "repentance".... over and over ... and over again in relation to getting "saved".... I usually want to yell.... "idiot".
But hey.. that is just my rather arrogant and selfish belief.
Before you explaterate, you should know what you're talking about.
He is a Southern Baptist pastor.
Salvation without repentance is like water without hydrogen!
Okay... OReilly..
Wow, an SB that doesn't carry "Baptist" on his sign. I'm impressed.
Repentance is "granted". Its a work of God's divine Grace. Please read the story of Esau. He sought "repentance"... carefully with "tears".... and never found it. The message of the Gospel isn't "repent"...."repent"..... "repent". Its the Truth of God's Son. Once a person digests the message of God's Son and looks to Christ, you can then talk of repentance. You're getting the cart before the horse buddy. It is impossible for someone properly repent apart from the divine work of God's grace. We can have a discussion about the order of events in salvation if you like. In fact, it would be a good discussion.
Oder of event not withstanding, there is no salvation without repentance!
I agree... its the message that I'm having an issue with.
The message?
The blog post s based on his book, which was I think partially a response to David Platt's extreme IMO view on the subject!
Platt considers a phrase like “asking Jesus into your heart†to be “dangerous†and “damning.â€
This part....
God never promises to give salvation to someone because they pray some magical words or because they went through a ceremony at the altar of their church. God gives salvation to those who repent and believe the gospel.
This is dangerous....
You can not find proper repentance without believing the Gospel. Its not "God I'm sorry, I believe"....
Its God, I believe the record God gave of your Son, God grants repentance, and then a "Believer" can properly. REPENT.
Our message isn't. Repent, Repent, Repent, Repent......and BELIEVE. Its all started with actually believing. If you truly get someone to believe, then Repentance will come.
