Supporting Israel?

I don't believe the modern state of Israel has any theological or prophetic significance. I tend to support Israel on pragmatic, not theological grounds. They are our most reliable ally in the region and an island of democracy and civilization amidst despotism and barbarism. But I don't reflexively and automatically support everything they do. If they screw up, I'm ok with calling them on it. I don't know that they did in this case, I don't know enough about the situation. Likewise, I respect their independence and don't believe the US should treat them as a subservient client state and try to dictate their policy, like twisting their arms hard on treaty negotiations.

The modern state of Israel is NOT the Nation of Israel of scripture.

Carry on.

It isn't?

Well, the borders aren't the same, if that's what he means.

I don't think there has ever been a time in history when Israel controlled all the area that was promised to Abraham by God.

America doesn't want democracies. She wants lackeys.

This is true. Much of the current mid-east turmoil we struggle with can be traced to the US overthrowing the democratically elected government of Iran and (re)installing the Shah. All for the good of the people. The "people" being identified as petroleum companies.

Israel doesn't have an NHL franchise.

Does their beer suck as badly as Canada's?  ;)

I do have to admit that your National Anthem is pretty cool though.  :)
