When I first started playing guitar "Old Man" was one of the songs I learned to play. I see it form an entirely new perspective now that I am an old man.

And I had one of those bag phones in the early days of cell phone tech.

no wonder nobody liked the neil young videos i posted in the music thread... .. i really didn;t know anything about him... .. didn;t even think the song was all that good.. but his singing reminded me of the homeless guy who use to sit on the corner close to our building and play his guitar and sing.... .. he sang old hawaiian tunes.... but would frequently alter the lyrics to match whatever he saw happening on the street in front of him at the time...... .....i used to take him mcdonalds hamburgers and fries... and he sang about that too.... ....... never knew what happened to him... . he just disappeared one day....

the homeless guy i knew played really well.... and he was playing this song a lot....
about the 3rd or 4th time i took him food from mcdonalds he busted out singing it
from about where the 40 second mark is... and sang.. . . "sweet... hawaiian sistah
... brings me coke and hamburgahhh...... " ....... i don;t how the rest of his song
went coz i turned around and ran away... fast.. . trying not to laugh or scream... .
... but wanting to do both......

even before covid started we had already scaled back our homeless ministry due to safety
concerns..... not everybody out there was as friendly or as harmless as an old hawaiian guy
with a guitar or a ukulele... and some were becoming very dangerous... we started focusing
(with police cooperation and assistance).. on homeless teenagers who were being forced into
prostitution and drug dealing.... but then that got too dangerous for us to be a part of too....


then the covid lock downs happened and nobody in my group of friends has been out there since
..it;s not even safe for the police to work with homeless anymore... and the old street musicians
that used be all over town are gone...... replaced by fast talking hustlers who you don;t even want
to see from the other side of the street if you are walking by yourself.... the election of obama
changed many things for the worse.. covid19 and the election of biden changed everything else

In Big Yellow Taxi she tells a farmer to stop spraying DDT. At that time DDT was still considered safe by the government. Her views came from a book called Silent Spring. I guess that would have been called misinformation today if not then. So why is Rogan's view or his guest's view any different? Same with Neil who was against GMO foods not long ago. They can't allow others to have an opinion that goes against the consensus?
 
Joe Rogan is under cancer-culture shutdown pressure like never before, and the latest effort is because in some not-so-recent podcasts he used the N-word (in context) while he was reading cited texts from another blogger who was actually talking (ignorantly and crudely) about race-relations issues....

I'm not condoning Rogan's occasional dufus-ways, but this is an issue of free speech which, in his typical libertarian fashion, he is right about. The discussion over race relations and use of language, as well as the extent of government intervention and over-reach (mandates, shutdowns, etc), ought to be had in earnest so that information via examination and accountability can be heard, and our constitutional 1st amendment rights uplifted (not suppressed via political weapanization)!

Our constitutional rights and free speech are there to protect us from either being limited by our own government. They don't and can't offer any type of protection from the decisions of those in private enterprise. Those enterprises aren't "free" and they aren't a government entity. Spotify is a publicly traded company headquartered in Sweden. The way I see it, they can remove Joe Rogan or give him a bigger contract or whatever they want. Their customers can subscribe or cancel whenever they want. Artists on their service can pull their music or add more. If public opinion drives down listenership, Spotify will choose to do what is in their best interest. If listenership goes up and Joe Rogan becomes more popular which generates more revenue, Spotify will also do what is in their best interest.
Personally, I have never listened to a single Joe Rogan podcast and I am a Spotify subscriber.
 
The liberal:socialist culture today demands that you agree with them or you will be forced into silence.
