Yes! My daughter works for a marine scientist and cannot be paid until she is 16.

"All business owners are greedy and out to make as much money for themselves as they can. As such, no business owner will ever pay their employees a fair / living wage. Therefore, they must, by the power of the state, be forced to pay a living wage to their workers. Failure to comply should mean automatic jail time and the closure of their business!!"

Paraphrased from having heard / read too many "fight for $15" protest speeches in the Chicago area. But why fight for just $15.00/hour? Why not $20.00? $30.00?

As an experiment and finally to prove a point (one way or the other), I recommend that the government zero out everyone's net worth and give each individual 1 million dollars. From that "fair" starting point there is to be no more government involvement in thing economic. Everyone is on his own. My prediction is that after tens years, the "haves" and the "have nots" would primarily consist of the same people as before the "experiment".

There should be a national minimum wage. Even as a moderate I believe it is more important for states to have realistic minimum wage.  The impact of a national minimum wage has a different impact depending on where you live. The impact on NYC is much less than on my small town in Kentucky.

Today on Rush, he spoke of a Minimum income.

Of course, that, as well as a minimum wage, is all a little part of socialism.

We all like a little socialism when we benefit.

I agree with your statements, except for one thing...I'd say five years would be enough time.

Socialism is a political and economic theory of social organization that advocates that the means of production, distribution, and exchange should be owned or regulated by the community as a whole.

Society can not function with rules. The most vulnerable need the protection. Speaking of Rush without some regulations about prescription fraud he still might be a drug addict.

The "dirty secret" about minimum wage is that several unions tie the pay scale to "x times the minimum wage", so when the minimum wage rate increases, it gives an automatic increase to thousands (hundreds of thousands?) of unionized workers.

While some workers are worthy of a wage increase, there are plenty more who don't deserve any increase.

The Bible says that the laborer is worthy of his hire; also, in the parable of the laborers, wages are agreed upon between the one hiring them and the workers, not decided by a third party or by the government.

There are pros and cons about labor unions. Even in a unionized shop the employer still negotiates the wages. I am not sure I buy the "dirty secret" since local contracts tend to be negotiated based on local conditions. I am not saying that the scenario you put forth never happens but I don't see it as the norm. I am not a labor expert but am not totally void of experience either. Worked 9 years in a union shop and then managed 19 years with bargaining unit covered employees. My first wife worked a number of years for Pennsylvania AFL-CIO while we were married.

By "dirty secret", I meant that minimum wage increases are always touted as helping the poor man make a decent wage - but, in truth, (so my understanding is), many unionized places tie the salaries to various multiples of the minimum wage.

I think labor unions had their place a century ago; I think that for the last 30-40 years, they have done nothing useful but hinder company productivity - at least in the USA.

The employer may negotiate, but for the union as a whole; he cannot determine a wage for an individual employer.

I've seen the union thing from the other side... "don't get caught moving a chair from one office to another, or we will be sued by the union"

I don't consider myself anti-union but know instances of ridiculous extremes. I have seen unions lead employees astray with bad advice. Another issue for unions is since revenue is driven by number of members there is the temptation to see every solved by more employees rather than finding practical solutions.

Pay should be based on skill set, period.

10 being the highest set of skills. All people are at different levels no one is the same. God gives people their skill set, and it's on us to be content with what Gods gives us.

If I'm a 3 on the set of skills I have it's up to me to become a 5 or a six. An adult male that works at McDonald's for 10 years, that may very well be his skill set.

Continuing to raise minimum wage and pay someone who is only capable of flipping burgers is ridiculous in my mind.

I've learned, life is work and if I want to capitalize on the skill set that God has given me I must work and work and work and work and work to capitalize on this. It's tough and hard but lazy people do not capitalize on their skill set, period. It's a daily grind, learn to enjoy the grind!

If someone is a 3 or 4 and isn't lazy they could become a 5 or a 6 over time. It may take them longer then some to get at a wage that is comfortable for their family but it should come in time.

I was never bound for college because God didn't give me that kind of mind and I believe I'm ok with that........and yes I think it's taken me a little longer then some to get where I am but I'm enjoying my journey God has for me.

My wife is a stay at home mom and homeschools our children. We have gone to Disneyworld every year for the past 10 years or so and there's money in the bank. I do not say this to try to brag but to say, it can be done for that guy that works at McDonald's.

A lazy man wants but is miserable.
