My wife did, yes. Me well, it was Hyles church we went to for sure but not a Christian home even by my standards today.

We actually tried 5 different IFB churches thru the years they were all the same, exactly the same no difference. I’m not moving states to try and find an IFB church we are actually just done with the entire IFB denomination.

Yes and this is my question. Who is to decide when the pastor has crossed that line? According to Alaymen it sounds like the answer I’ve been given many times when in the IFB and that is…….your pastor is accountable to God and he will answer for how he pastors. You as a laymen are to trust God submit to the pastor and pray for him.

As with most people we get older and mature and look back at all the submitting and at that point we’re like you know what…….they can say whatever they want I don’t know care anymore at this point.

One pastor son and wife swingers.
One pastor in jail for molesting.
One pastor covered for a pedophile.
One pastor covered for a pedophile.
One pastor covered for a pedophile.
One pastor followed us to see what kind of clothes we were buying.

Again, who decides when the pastor has gone to far? Or are we as laymen supposed to just pray for him and continue to submit?

Each individual in the church must decide according to their conscience. I'm glad you and your wife got away.

I wouldn’t suggest you move just to find an IFB church, particularly an abusive one. It’s hard for me to believe your area is saturated with only the tyrannical authoritarian type, but anything is possible.

Her entire family are still very much in the IFB Hyles type 100%. They say there not the Hyles type because they now have beards . When we left the IFB I was very bitter so on my part it definitely caused tension. I’ve apologized to them for it. But they are very much IFB.

Listening to them talk about church or spiritual matters makes me want to gag. But I just sit back and say. Amen my heart breaks for our nieces and nephews. Now that they are older they literally cannot function in the world and I’m not exaggerating even a little bit. I could tell you stories of them getting jobs and then having to find something else. It would break your heart.

Though you haven’t gone that route apparently, you should be cautious about your perspective and not allow bitterness to jade your views of church exposure to the radical IFB types. I saw over-corrections constantly in years past on the forum from people fleeing such abuse. Thus, the word “Freebird” was coined to describe them.

That’s generally a good thing, but I’m not really talking about church attendance for the sake of attendance. People go to church all the time without worshipping. I’m not saying that’s you, I’m only offering a word of caution against allowing those old memories to cause you to do Christianity-lite. I say this based on some past things you’ve said on here about not being able to connect with people at your church(s) as much as your secular relationships, for one.
