The sad history of

This is sad. You never know what even good people are struggling with.

The sad thing is, from what I have observed over many years, that the church should be there to help the hurting and not drive them further down the road to such terrible events.  I realize not all churches drive people that way but unfortunately I have been around ones that seem to do just that.

Sad times for the Hamilton family for sure.

It's not really a fundy thing.  Suicide is rampant in America today.  I believe it is normally a demonic oppression, though sometimes chemical imbalance is the main cause.

Yep, more shame on the church.

Maybe you misread the quoted post?

;)  ;)

It may not be a fundy thing but many times the churches think they really know what the problem is when someone is depressed or having a hard time with something. They say you need to read your Bible more, pray more, go soulwinning more, and other things like that and you will be fine. Thus the reason why there is such a high rate of suicides among church goers. I know of at least 2 where I grew and one was the Dean's son. I heard many times after that the reason was because he wasn't going to church and blah blah blah but maybe there was something more but the "church" knew better.

I was at the brink several times.  No one reached out. As a matter of fact, several people told me basically to get a life.

Sounds like the typical performance based Christianity which only produces distress from not being able to do enough rather than peace from resting in Christ.  I agree that many churches do not understand depression.  I wish that our group was much better read.  However, to discount Christ as a hope for curing depression is incorrect also.  Many times the medical field needs to be consulted and they can offer help.  However, if the medical field denies the spiritual impact on a person's life they are giving incomplete solutions.  We are body, soul and spirit.  Sometimes depression only comes from one of these centers, but most often it has its roots in all three.

So, what did you do?  Go through with it or did you get that life?  ;)

You think that's funny?  Seriously, do you think that depression to the point of suicide is something to joke about?

No I do not.

You seem to be over it and I was just trying to apply a little Pr 17:22.

My appologies.

I must have misunderstood you then. I saw "Did you go through with it" as you asking if I had killed myself.  And you obviously know that I did not since I am alive.  And that is why I thought you were making light of it, and I don't think there is anything funny about it.

I never was good at that humor thing or even sarcasm.
