Traditionally, fornication is the sin of sexual activity culminating in intercourse when the couple involved are not married. This sin is now common worldwide. In fact, many times a teenager who has not lost his or her virginity will be ridiculed for still being a virgin. Psychologically Today says 70-90 percent of adults have committed fornication. Fornication is commonplace in culture even though research has shown that couples who did not engage in fornication had happier marriages.

It appears to me that fornication is the forgotten, overlooked…winked at sin even among evangelicals.
Am I just am old guy shouting get off my lawn or is my observation correct?

I don't think fornication is any more common today than it was, say, 100 years ago. The only difference is that over the past 50 years or so, people brag about it more.

Perhaps that’s true but today even professing Christians are often openly practicing fornication

But people finally realize that they can feel good about themselves because Jesus loves them unconditionally. <>

You are not wrong.

Preach it old man! 😉

People used to get married at a much younger age for starters.

Nowadays it is our education and careers that take center stage but people have "needs" and therefore justify their casual "hook-ups" and pray the contraception works and murder their babies when it doesn't.

I believe we are quickly coming to see the fallacy of higher education for EVERYONE with kids saddled with ridiculous student loan debt from pursuing a useless degree. We can go down a big ol' rabbit trail with this!

In a more aggrarian society, it was not uncommon for kids to marry while still in their teens. No problem raising a family if a man had been working along side their dad learning his trade.

Now we wait till our late 30s/early 40s before we decide to settle down and raise a family but we are also past our sexual and childbearing prime by this time so there is a booming business with fertility treatments and so forth.

Not sure if there is any sort of a solution here. I do believe we need to re-think the need for EVERYONE to have a degree from a university and start steering our young folks towards some of the "trades" which do not require mountains of student debt and will get you into a job often paying far more than most entry-level college graduate positions!

Yes, it is a morality issue but it is also a biological issue. When do you think God intends us to find a mate and start a family?

My sons went to an evangelical Christian college and guys having sex with their girlfriends was common. I've talked to numerous people who went to HAC in the day and it was common there too.

On campus or was it just guys talking about it like doing it off campus? Were the girlfriends also students? How did they not get caught if on campus? You'd think it would be like Five Eyes there.

Is watching Pornography a sexual sin…fornication or adultery?
I believe it is all 3. All fornication and adultry are sexual sins and if your married pornography is adultry as well because you are having sex in your mind and heart with someone who is not your wife.

Proverbs 23:7 "For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he,

Matthew 5:28 - But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.

Galatians 5:19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,

Philippians 4:8 - Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

Lasciviousness: refers to looseness, wantonness, or lustfulness. It describes the unrestrained indulgence of sexual desires and is often associated with debauchery or immorality aswell as fornication, adultery, and excessive sexual indulgence.

It was far less common at HAC in some eras than others. Many young people were asked to leave because of this. The natural desire for intimacy is very strong and it take character to resist it if you are in a relationship. Some staff members throughout the years struggled with this sin as well.

They were in University provided housing, off campus. It was a hotel they converted to dorms. And it was not just talk. Years after my son graduated, he told me that it was very common.

I'm going to hazard a guess that HAC has or had a whole bunch of byzantine rules about how men and women were allowed to interact, and/or what constituted "dating." Would I be correct?

Absolutely. They were never to be alone. The "touching" rules were so strict, I think that a woman's arms through the man's was the only touching allowed. They had to always be chaperoned. And freshmen were not allowed to "date."

I thought that might be the case. I've commented in the past on the labyrinth of rules some fundy colleges set up about dating--with whom, where, when, how often, how long, with whose permission, etc.

Obviously I wouldn't condone fornication, but I would find it understandable if a couple of young adults read all that, and just decided to heck with it and started meeting clandestinely. Short of actual sinful/unlawful conduct or suffering academic performance, sometimes the school needs to mind its own business.
