The Tribe of Dan?

Well, two have now moved out and two more are still at home...

Oh wait, the tribe of Israel. Sorry!

LOL.... I'd forgot that was.....

Anyway.... A student of Revelation probably knows why I ask the question.

I surprised my teacher at HAC by showing him that Dan was eliminated as a tribe of Israel.

Dan appears to picture the Catholic Church (They chose a priest who was a "father," who had nothing left when his statues were taken away). Their demotion is listed at about the same time as the destruction of the Catholic Church.

Possibly Dan will be so small by that time that it will be included with another tribe, as Benjamin sometimes was included with Judah..

Dan chose a priest who was a "father"?

Or..... The writer of Revelation didn't know as much as he thought about the history of Israel.

I'd like to see you make the case for removing one of the tribes from Israel. It might be a little entertaining...

I would like to see him turn a tribe from Israel into a gentile church...oh wait some have with their replacement theology...nevermind!

I've read that the man of sin (antichrist) will come from the tribe of Dan.

I also read a long time ago that Ronald Reagan was the antichrist, and that Jesus would return in 1994.

I consider most of these "predictions" to be equally reliable.

What happened to the tribe of Dan?

Same thing that happened to the other northern tribes. They were exiled, and then for the most part scattered and assimilated.

Unless you believe the British-Israel cranks, who claim that every time you see a D and an N in close proximity in a name (e.g. London, Denmark), it's proof that "Dan was here" and the ten lost tribes became the Anglo-Saxons, Danes, and other Germanic peoples.  Basically, it's "proof by pun" applied to anthropology and about as stupid as it sounds.

No problem, Praise.

Revelation 7 tells us:

"4 And I heard the number of them which were sealed: and there were sealed an hundred and forty and four thousand of all the tribes of the children of Israel.
5 Of the tribe of Juda were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Reuben were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Gad were sealed twelve thousand.
6 Of the tribe of Aser were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Nepthalim were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Manasses were sealed twelve thousand.
7 Of the tribe of Simeon were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Levi were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Issachar were sealed twelve thousand.
8 Of the tribe of Zabulon were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Joseph were sealed twelve thousand. Of the tribe of Benjamin were sealed twelve thousand."

Now I'd like to give you some good advice. Scorn is a useful tool for people who don't have Scripture to back up their positions. That's only one reason why God forbids us to use scorn. You won't learn Scripture by listening to a scorner, because God tells us that a scorner had no wisdom. And if you choose to use scorn as a spiritual tool, you will have to function without  wisdom yourself.

There were 9 other tribes that were assimilated. Dan is one left out of Revelation chapter 7.

Why did "God" leave out Dan and still retain the other tribes that were assimilated?

How is that making the case for removing Dan?

You're going to have do better than.... "Revelation" removes Dan. Thus, it must be true!

There was no "tribe of Joseph," although it was included in the list as well. There were two half tribes, Ephraim and Manasseh, descended from Joseph's sons. The list includes Manasseh but also omits the larger tribe of Ephraim.

There is no consistent enumeration of the twelve tribes in the Bible. When Moses blesses Israel tribe by tribe in Deuteronomy 33, Simeon is omitted.  The census of 1 Chronicles 4-7 does not enumerate either Dan or Zebulun.

Maybe there is no obvious theological reason why Dan is not in Rev. 7, and in a highly symbolic book, in a highly symbolic chapter where the number 12 is compounded, the number itself is more significant than the actual items on the list.

Thanks for recognizing this error. I was aware of the others. I was just attempting to focus upon one at a time.

The tribe of Dan is mentioned throughout the OT. Even in Amos and Ezekiel. Ezekiel 48..... well. I shouldn't even have to tell what chapter 48 is about.

Yet. Dan is omitted in Revelation.

Well. It was highly symbolic in Ezekiel 48. Why the inconsistency?

And here we have "proof by Yeezy ignoring what I actually said and blithely forging onward regardless."

Yes, Dan is omitted in Revelation. Do you have a point, or are you just yelling at random things again?

Isn't the point obvious? Are you really that dumb?

Whomever wrote "Revelation" made a mistake.

I don't believe you, primarily because being an angry kook and marvelling that anyone might presume to disagree with Your Infalliblenessness are not a substitute for actual arguments.

Dan is missing. Dan shouldn't be missing. Ezekiel didn't remove the tribe of Dan. Revelation does. I'll take Ezekiel. Revelation doesn't pass the test.
