i missed sunday school this morning for the first time in a long time... .. but i won;t be in trouble... . we went to a pearl harbor commemoration ceremony at ford island early this morning.... and my sunday school teacher was there too. ... .. she was a witness to the very beginning of the attack in 1941 - standing outside her church in shock by what she was seeing.... until her older brother grabbed her and ran inside with her for safety..... she is almost 90.... but remembers the details of what she saw like it was yesterday.....

these 3 live streams of waikiki are good for now... . but they will be worthless before
long coz these generally only stay up a few days at most..... then they go black......
but for now you can check out live action in waikiki. ... ..(you can also scroll back

the honolulu marathon is scheduled for tomorrow.... 
.. and the forecast calls for heavy rain - even flash flooding possible for parts of oahu.... 
....it;s one of our 2 yearly monsoon seasons - and they say they will run the marathon anyway even if it comes a thunderstorm

Should hold it here! Beautiful sunny weather, mid 50s... Perfect biking weather for the annual Toy Run. It's always a hoot!the honolulu marathon is scheduled for tomorrow....

Here in Michigan we have changed the pronunciation to Odawa for the tribes. Or the white man is finally pronouncing it correctly. Anyway, there is a small group of people who want to change the place names to match. Ottawa County would become Odawa County.

That's a perfectly acceptable pronunciation; even back in elementary school we knew the tribe was named Odawa rather than Ottawa. There are worse things. There's a street in Vancouver formerly named Trutt Street; earlier this year they changed it to Musqueamview Street to honour the Musqueam tribe. Fair and decent.
But they also added a sign reading "šxʷməθkʷəy̓əmasəm Street," which is in North American Phonetic Alphabet, a lettering system designed by linguists to transcribe (primarily) indigenous languages, not as a system of orthography. Apparently a few West Coast Indians have adopted NAPA as a writing system, but unlike the more famliar Cree syllabics and their variations, they look like an unpronounceable word soup.

..........the rain wasn;t as heavy as the forecast said it could be..... (never is)..... but even so 43 thousand people from all over the world took part this year... ......... this is one of the few marathons in the world where there is no prerequisite or qualifications to enter - and no cut off time limit.... ..you can take as long as you need to finish the race as long as you stay on course and finish before nightfall.... .i know people who participate every year and walk the entire distance - just to get the t-shirt saying they were a finisher.......
....and honolulu intends to keep it that way coz it puts well over 100 million dollars into the hawaii economy - all in a single day...
.. .....plus it also attracts some of the top elite athletes in the world too..... the winning time this year was 2 hours 14 minutes and 41 seconds..... that;s only 8 minutes off the olympic marathon record....
