Things once considered Sin and may still be.

Here's some more I can add:

Facebook
Riding in cars with a girl unchaperoned
Women wearing sleeveless dresses
Tanning beds
Not having kids immediately after getting married.
Dating, not using the "courtship model"
Any touch of the opposite sex.
Beards.

One crazy rule at the Bible college I attended was that you couldn't grow a beard when school was in session, but if you had a beard you could keep it.

All I can think of at the moment. Probably can add some more later.

Crazy stuff from the Western NC/upstate SC camp meeting crowd.
Guess Jesus and John would have gotten banned, and those schools also had to commit to not seeing any movies in theater, yet could set home and view worse stuff on cable tv e=right in the dorms

The Patriarchy, Family Integrated Church, Vision Forum (Doug Phillips), Bill Gothard movements have been very creative in coming up with sins.

Young people (men and women) not allowed to move out from Mom and Dad without permission, until they get married.
Women should not attend college or work outside the home.
Women should not vote. (This is one of Doug Wilson's big issues)
No one should attend college, even Christian college, against the wishes of the parents.
Women are not allowed to wear slacks or sleeveless dresses.
No dating allowed, only arranged courtship, during which the couples must be chaperoned at all times.
No birth control allowed.
No borrowing or mortgages allowed.
Can you say 'CULT"

Daisy Duke, eh? Being so separated, I'm amazed he's so aware of a look, let alone one that passed over 40 years ago.
we had a major disagreement over women wearing shorts right here not even 10 years ago... .... i can;t remember who said it but when i mentioned that i routinely wear utd style shorts.... (underwater demolition team).... at the archery range - someone commented they were no different than daisy dukes shorts and therefor immodest..... .... i can;t remember exactly what i said in reply but it was something to the effect of it;s a common way women dress here in hawaii and not considered a big deal... ..

like i said before... . things have not changed in the fundamental legalist mindset as many would like to claim it has....... we all have personal preferences - likes and dislikes... .. unfortunately there is still a tendency for some to make their personal and extra-biblical preferences a sin issue for others - when those others have different tastes or live in a different culture..... i dealt with it here when i first joined the old fff - and it;s one reason i don;t post personal pictures anymore....

If you were to google most anybody who is known for their connection with the civil war, particularly those in the military, you will find no shortage of facial hair. Men were recognized and described by their beards.
well..... personally i hate beards... ..mustaches too..... any facial hair - facial fuzz and etc...... i think men look better clean shaven... but that;s just a personal preference and i admit there is nothing in the bible that would say beards are a sin.... ... .... ...... and while we are on that subject... . long hair on men doesn;t bother me at all.... .. as long as it;s not dreadlocked... . in my opinion dreadlocks are just nasty looking...... but is having them a sin?....... ....i can;t say they are... . ... they are just not something i would ever wear myself or be attracted to.... ...

there were some people here a few years ago who believed taking medications was a sin.... .. they insisted all medical and physical ailments were a sin issue... judgement for sins..... and they could all be handled by dealing with whatever sin it was the sufferer of an ailment was being judged for .....one of them even said medications for diabetes was unnecessary because all diabetes could be controlled with cinnamon...... ... i would say they were involved in some weird cult - but they claimed to be baptists.....

Maybe Doug Phillips and Bill Gothard should have paid more attention to the things the Bible calls sin, particularly the sexual kind, before exercising their creativity to invent more.

I become half-convinced that there's a form of legalism that keeps its focus on trivial "sins" specifically to deflect attention from the big sins its leaders are comitting.

If you're not wearing a hijab, you're immodest in some Muslims, oops, Fundamentalists' minds.

It is pretty common human behavior. When confronted with our failures the default response is often to point to someone else and their failures. Adam pointed to Eve. Cain denied any responsibility for his brother. Every political faction says what about them. No great stretch for indyfundies to play the game in the same manner. We are all prone to saying it wasn't me.

In one of the theology courses I audited several years ago, we discussed the various definitions of "legalism." One was "focusing on minor matters of the Law to avoid its weightier and less explicit implications." Consider Matt. 23:23, where Jesus accuses the Pharisees of tithing even from their spice rack to deflect from their own injustice. Same idea.

If your daughter looks like Daisy Duke, she may have worse problems than her choice of shorts.

Sooner or later, everybody gets old. But not everybody gets old in a Mercedes ;)

I don't think the Mercedes would'a been well received in Hazard! Her departure from Mopar (most definitely American muscle) woulda likely got her disowned by the Dukes. The Duke family would've considered that an unpardonable sin!

At one point, Dodge & Mercedes were brands of the same company. Maybe she acquired the Mercedes during that time.

Chrysler and Daimler-Benz didn't merge until the late 1990s. On the other hand, Daisy's signature vehicle for most of the show was a Jeep, and Chrysler didn't buy out AMC until after the Dukes went off the air.

You see this a lot in circles such as word of faith, as they have elevated their leadership to being modern day apostles and prophets, and pretty much what they do is excused under "touch not the Lords annoited"

one of my pastors stated that whenever a pastor or teacher really makes an issue out of certain sinning in bible, that just might be the one area they are having hardest time dealing with themselves

I learned when I was a teenager that the thing people hate most in other people is often the thing they hate about themselves.

I still don't understand the crowd who holds that going to the theater is wrong, but continuously make reference to watching movies anywhere from a few years old to over half a century old that started out in the movie house.

I said all that to say that some have moved on from the "movie house is a sin" standard.

Eating or drinking in the sanctuary.

IBC root beer or any drink consumed in a bottle that might be mistaken for an alcoholic drink.

Suckers, they could be mistaken for a cigarette.

Christmas trees AND Halloween candy, especially Peeps and Candycorn

Men peeing while sitting

Crockett and Tubbs pastel clothing on men

Gauchos (culottes are still fine)
