My wife and I attended FBC this past Sunday evening!

From what I recall, it was the summer of '95 when we were last there!

The new auditorium is impressive! The Spanish pastor was the speaker. Apparently, Pastor Wilkerson is traveling with a tour group! It was nice to speak with some old friends and see familiar faces!

I graduated in 1981 and returned one time, in 2001. I have never seen the new church auditorium. Could you possibly expand more on your impressions of the church? How did you feel that it is today, in comparison to how you left it in 1995?

I arrived to go to school at HAC and attended FBC in 1981. I guess we did not cross paths!

My recent visit reminded me of when I attended a service at Highland Park Baptist Church in the late 90's. I had been to the old auditorium when Dr. Roberson was still pastoring and had several thousand in the church aauditorium!

Both new auditoriums were impressive! Both legacy Pastors were gone! Both had half empty auditoriums! I believe both still had over 1,000 in attendance though!

I felt some sadness when comparing, but was happy for the faithful carrying on with the Lord's work!

Sometimes, the Lord must scatter the thousands for the 300 he needs will get the job done! Time will tell!

We left in 1983 I've been back once. Never want to return nothing is there

I know. I went back in 2001. It was mostly out of curiosity. To this day, I'm not sure how I feel about that trip. Bro. Hyles had been dead less than a hundred days. The whole place seemed to be in shock.

I guess it was good to see some familiar faces, like Dr. Evans and Mrs. Evans, who would also soon be dead. I saw the Cowlings and Bro. Laurent, who had gone blind. But it was bittersweet because the place and the people did not represent a particularly good time in my life. They were just cast members in the movie of my life.

I've thought about visiting again, but I doubt I will. Whatever good that was there for me fifty years ago has changed. I think sometimes about returning one last time, again for curiosity's sake, but the greatest part of me thinks it would result in more bad than good, so I think the healthiest thing for me is to let the past be the past and pray to God to show me what it's supposed to mean in the story of my life.

Sherryh, thank you for giving me the strength to not return. I think it's best.
