Always like listening to his music. He was a very interesting character. Tony has left the building. Thanks for the music, sir!

Smooth, and 8 decades performing, pretty amazing.

my first memory of him was on a Christmas album that also featured Andy Williams and Mahilia Jackson, and others I can't remember.

The last of the great jazz crooners.

And a great argument against retirement. Bennett was still recording at 95. He only stopped performing because he was physically no longer able.

Such a great performer, Ransom. I read that in his last years, he had Alzheimers. But somehow, he could still remember the lyrics.

Snippet from Wikipedia article:

Bennett's twice-weekly singing practices are thought to have kept his brain stimulated and spared him from symptoms such as disorientation, depression, and a detachment from reality.[159] His neurologist told AARP that, prior to the pandemic, the singer's touring schedule "kept him on his toes and also stimulated his brain in a significant way".[160] Bennett had started showing symptoms of decline only in the two years leading up to the article's publication.

As the Wikipedia article abcanes cited notes, his short-term memory suffered, but his long-term memory seemed fine, so he didn't forget the lyrics. It also says that his continued singing likely slowed the onset of his Alzheimers because it kept his mind stimulated. A good thing to know. Don't idle. It's good for you.

There comes a time in everyone's life where you just have to stop.
