Of course they could backfire, but it’s going to be difficult to get elected president from behind bars or some type of house arrest, and that’s exactly what the Democrats have planned, I’m afraid.

I believe they will backfire. Many, even in the Democratic circles see this as an attempt to undermine the office of POTUS. Of course, the good Dems, if there's such a thing, sometimes are swayed the wrong way with threats of blackmail, harm, etc.
