“Olivia, this is a solid proposal. However, the terms ‘biological women’ are exclusionary and are not allowed in this course as they further reinforce heteronormativity. Please reassess your topic and edit it to focus on women’s rights (not just ‘females’) and I’ll regrade,” the professor said in response to her paper.

And to get around this sort of dilemma, most families have to mortgages their lives away for a decent Christian college that’s actually fully accredited. Sad.

Just had that very conversation in the aisles of Walmart yesterday evening with the husband of an ALAYWIFE teacher-friend.

Well, I'll grant them that criticism, though not for the same reasons. "Biological women" implies there's something other than biology that determines who is a woman. "Women" on its own ought to be exclusionary enough.

There will always be some faddish language quirk that university students will have to work around in their writing. For me back in the early 90s it was inclusive language vs. the generic "he."

I hope it is not Sociology. If he is a chip off the old Alay-block, he will be a thinker, and will do well whatever he pursues.
I'd have deep reservations about sending a kid into that environment. Sadly, I'd have deep reservations about sending a kid into the military for the same reason.

I think we were in college about the same time but I don’t recall that. Could have been a regional difference thing. Care to elaborate?

I pray he holds tightly to the values you and ALAYWIFE instilled in him.
I know, ain’t that almost always the case in these launching situations? Prob 22:6

The Lord knows those who are his. Phil 1:6 he who began a good work will bring it to completion at the day of Christ. That tells me that if my child is God's, God will carry them, sanctify them, protect them, until that moment that the Sovereign Lord determines that he wants them home. I had to let go of my daughter when she went to a state school. She spent 4 years there and led numerous of her softball co-players to Christ, then went into missionary training when she graduated. Now she's serving him in Africa and I will not see her for 3 years or so. It's hard. But I lean on Christ as my hope and joy and peace. I weep regularly as I miss my daughter and 2 grandchildren. I will not get to see them grow up. It drives me to prayer.

I started university in 1989. In my first year I wrote a paper in which I used the generic "he" and got marked down for "sexist languge."

So for the rest of my schooling (I graduated in 1997), I made sure to avoid the generic "he" by recasting those phrases in plural--or, if I was feeling snarky toward a certain TA or prof, by alternating male and female pronouns with wild abandon.

I thought it was funny, but it was probably what they wanted anyway.

Okay, I started in 87 and in five years of University I never experienced anything like that, though such shenanigans did cost my Alma Mater 400k last year.

Thank the good Lord that I never had to go through worrying about pronouns. Fellowship Baptist College and Maranatha Baptist Bible College never had us do such lame things.

That's because you chose a path other than Satan U! 😁

Perhaps you should send Alayboy here in order to keep him protected from the influences of "Satan U!"
Lol, uhhhhh, no! His emails are flooded daily with solicitations from all sorts of colleges and lenders, MacArthurs Seminary included and that’s fundy enough for me. But we’re having a hard enough time dealing with him moving 2 hours away, let alone all the way to the Left Coast! I’m really sure that’s not Gods will for him 😁

So true! And to think I almost went to one of three Satan U's...Indiana University in Bloomington, IN...Indiana State University in Terre Haute, IN...or Bradley University in Peoria, IL.

Hey, if you would have chosen IU then maybe you could have rubbed elbows with Mellencamp and added one more notch to all the musicians you know!😁

On a different note, here’s a follow up story from the professor who gave the failing grade.
