Verses IFBs ignore when reading their Bibles.

Here is an interesting passage about tithing.

Deu 14:22  Thou shalt truly tithe all the increase of thy seed, that the field bringeth forth year by year.
Deu 14:23  And thou shalt eat before the LORD thy God, in the place which he shall choose to place his name there, the tithe of thy corn, of thy wine, and of thine oil, and the firstlings of thy herds and of thy flocks; that thou mayest learn to fear the LORD thy God always.

Yes you read that right you are to take the tithe and have a feast for you and your family. Now what do you think your average IFB would say about spending the tithe on yourself?

Deu 14:24  And if the way be too long for thee, so that thou art not able to carry it; or if the place be too far from thee, which the LORD thy God shall choose to set his name there, when the LORD thy God hath blessed thee:
Deu 14:25  Then shalt thou turn it into money, and bind up the money in thine hand, and shalt go unto the place which the LORD thy God shall choose:

There is also an option to turn the tithe into money. And just look at what you are told to spend it on.

Deu 14:26  And thou shalt bestow that money for whatsoever thy soul lusteth after, for oxen, or for sheep, or for wine, or for strong drink, or for whatsoever thy soul desireth: and thou shalt eat there before the LORD thy God, and thou shalt rejoice, thou, and thine household,

Imagine your pastor telling you to take the money you would normally give to "the church" and spend it on a great feast for you and your household. Imagine him telling you to buy wine or strong or anything your soul desireth.

Well don't ever expect your pastor to tell you that, but it looks like God did.

Do not ever expect to hear a sermon on this passage.

It turns tithing on its head and blows up the Women's Christian Temperance Union's anti alcohol creed.

It's no wonder Catholics don't want people reading the Bible for themselves and maybe IFBs aren't so different from Catholics after all.

rejecting tithing.......defending the sin of drinking........defending devil worship.................somehow I believe that this forum is not for the fundamentalist.....is this a anti-fundamentalist forum?

You'd best not depend on your ESPN... This forum is far from being populated by fundamental Baptists.  There are catholics, athiests, non-denominationals, and a handful of what would be considered "hardcore" IFB.

looks about right.....where do you fall in this category?

Most of the people here use to be fundamentalist, but have changed their opinion for one reason or another.  There is much good debate here, but seems to eventually roll around to the same few tag lines.  There is also allot of humor here as us former HACkers poke fun at ourselves for our behavior patterns of 20 - 40 years ago.

If you are looking for a site to receive standing ovations for parroting Hyles theology, you might want to look elsewhere.

i aint tryin to parrot Hyles....

i just want to spread the Word of God

just going on the bible alone.....where Jesus says....that narrow is the way to heaven....and wide is the path to destruction.......i take that and notice that MOST people didn't like the teachings and opinions of Hyles....and Greene....and Rolloff....and some of the other great preachers of old.

so.....just going on what the bible says........ i believe im on the right side

Most people don't eat earthworms.  Doesn't mean I should.  They sure won't get me to heaven.

not comparing apples to apples.....

most people don't agree with the fact that drinking is a sin....but God does....and God is right!!

Most people don't agree that overeating is a sin.....God does...and God is right!

and i don't agree...i don't agree 100% with the plan of salvation.....seems to me that if a man does good and good things and he helps people...he should be allowed to go to heaven....bt that's not true.....but i dont know that i 100% agree with that...but God does...and ill admit...GODS RIGHT!

eating earthworms.....and following Christ....even thou he was extremely offensive......are 2 totally different animals

Drinking alcohol is not the sin, drunkenness is the sin.

Eating food is not a sin but overeating, gluttony is the sin.

It's a matter of self control.

That's what the scriptures say.

...completely agree with you about this one.

Especially since your "30 Years..." message really hammered on this point!

I haven't said so recently, but a great message, and a great blessing... very helpful.

i have to respectfully disagree.....

I hold tenaciously to the Baptist Distictives, Priesthood of the Believer and Individual Soul Liberty.

We each have the right to interpret the Bible for ourselves. Disagreement is good and not bad.

Each of us must come to our own conclusions based upon the scriptures and not the platitudes of men.

Here is further explanation of two Baptist Distinctives.

The Baptist model of a church rests on the concept of the priesthood of believers. A church is made up of persons who have exercised their God-given competency by believing in Jesus as Savior and Lord and by voluntarily associating with a particular fellowship of believers.

Each believer priest in the fellowship is equal to all of the others. Therefore, no one is in authority over all. Thus decisions are made by the community of priests seeking to know the will of the head of the church, the great High Priest, Jesus Christ. They do this by prayer, Bible study, meditation, discussion and decision.

?Every man by nature possesses the right of private judgment in the interpretation of the Scriptures, and in all religious concerns; it is his privilege to read and explain the Bible for himself, without dictation from, or dependence on, any one, being responsible to God alone for his use of the sacred truth.

Every man has the right to hold such religious opinions as he believes the Bible teaches, without harm or hindrance from any one on that account, so long as he does not intrude upon, or interfere with, the rights of others by doing so.

All men have the right, not only to believe, but also to profess and openly declare, whatever religious opinions they may entertain, providing they be not contrary to common morality, and do no injustice to others. All men possess the common right to worship God according to the teachings of the Scriptures, as they understand them, without hindrance or molestation, so long as they do not injure or interfere with the rights of others by so doing.?

Soul liberty and responsibility is antithetical to rule by a pope like figure in the congregation who maintains a rigid authoritarian rule and does not lead by example, a dictator and not a shepherd. The following are some of the characteristics of this UN-Christlike leader.

Authoritarian non Baptist distinctives.
1. There is never any freedom to question the leader.
2. The leader often makes claims of having special insights from God, insights that the laity are unable to possess.
3. Disagreement with the leader is deemed a sign of the devil?s influence in one?s life.
4. Events are designed to bring attention and praise to the leader rather than equipping others to do the work of the ministry.
5. Any concept of equality is immediately labeled rebellion or the end result of a ?liberal? denial of the Bible.
6. Authoritarian leaders are only comfortable around like-minded leaders; thus, there is an unofficial ?speaking tour? where only imperial, authoritarian leaders share the platform with each other.
7. The measure of success becomes the number of people who follow the leader (?It must be of God! Look at how many come to hear me speak!?)
8. If a person leaves the community or church, the problem is always in the person who leaves, not the leadership.
9. Leaders who wrongly perceive themselves as those ?with authority? insulate their lives by demanding absolute loyalty through giving large financial benefits to their closest ?advisers.?
10. The ultimate end of this kind of Christian leadership is always more; more money, more power, more followers, more publicity, more, more, more?

is this a fundamental forum?  I was under the impression that the people on this forum were Fundamentalist Baptists.......?

In my opinion, many of the people on the forum used to be Independent Fundamental Baptists, but have been disillusioned to one degree or another by bad men pretending to be IFB pastors.  Some have left the IFB entirely; some have renounced Christianity; many have changed from their more "hard-core" IFB beliefs.

Like Dilbert said: "I'm not anti-managament; I'm anti-idiot".  I'm not against the IFB, but I am against some of the idiot practices; the man-made rules about things on which the Bible is silent: eating bananas, open-toed sandals, and so on.  I despise the man-worship that is so prevalent in many IFB churches.

I think most of the people here agree with the preceding paragraph.

i agree with what you say...with the things that are not biblical......

like some of the rock music....even Hyles preached that the music itself was sin....and i can see when you say that rock songs are from the devil when its all jibberish and loud and disgusting instrument framing....because God is not the author of confusion....but slow rock contemporary Christian songs.....i thank that even Hyles is takin his personal feelings and trying to back them biblically.....but all denominations have some of this

Jesus and Jack Hyles were totally different people.

Some of us find no value in being called a IFB or Baptist for that matter. We prefer to be called after our Master. Christ.

If Christian isn't good enough for you..... then you've got a HUGE problem. We give honor where honor is due. There is no honor due Baptist. Christ.... now that is a different story altogether.

What verses do IFBs ignore when reading their Bibles?

Here are just two that come to mind. How did they get in the Bible since IFBs don't dance?

Psa 149:3  Let them praise his name in the dance: let them sing praises unto him with the timbrel and harp.

Psa 150:4  Praise him with the timbrel and dance: praise him with stringed instruments and organs.

...and when Jesus comes back and there is Jewish worship in a re-built Temple they will happen again. These verses have nothing to do with the church age.
So do you sing a cappella in your church?

I think values are helpful to give an overall understanding of what an organization belives.  "Christian" could be anything from Catholic to charismatic to Baptist.  "Baptist" gives a general understanding of what a church teaches.
