Verses IFBs ignore when reading their Bibles.

This has been my view throughout my married life. My wife and I always trusted God to give us those children that He desired we have, and not have here on earth, as some have died.

I feel for you on this one brother.....

Me and my wife have lost 2 children.  The only 2 she has ever given birth to.

I have 2 children that me and my wife have custody of from my previous marriage

im sorry for your loss brother

Well, I guess some of y'all are gonna be having kids well into y'all 50's.

Which, hey, have at it, IMO opinion as long as y'all ain't on food stamps.

I know a guy that has 7 kids and his attitude is, hey man I got 7 kids I gotta have food stamps to feed all of them.

We were riding in his van when he told me this.

Well here is another one that you are not likely to hear as a sermon text.
We could call it the sin of birth control.

The whole of Gen 38 would make most IFBs uneasy if they were to speak on it.

Birth control per se was not the issue. It was Onan's refusal to honour the levirate marriage custom and conceive an heir for his late brother.

totally agree with this^^^  the disobedience is the issue....

Here a good verse to prove leasing is sin.

Psa 5:6  Thou shalt destroy them that speak leasing: the LORD will abhor the bloody and deceitful man.

I guess I'll have to turn in my leased phone or just buy it outright.  I don't want to be disobedient.

Both Mormons and JWs were founded upon the Authorized Version. Works just fine for cults. Of course there are others too.

Now if we had just used a better translation to read we would not have any questions or false interpretations.

"You destroy liars; the LORD despises violent and deceitful people." (Ps. 5:6 NET)

1Sa 13:21  Yet they had a file for the mattocks, and for the coulters, and for the forks, and for the axes, and to sharpen the goads. (AV)

Here is a better translation.

13:21 They charged  two-thirds of a shekel  to sharpen plowshares and cutting instruments, and a third of a shekel  to sharpen picks and axes, and to set ox goads. (NET)

shekel This word, which appears only here in the OT, probably refers to a stone weight. Stones marked ????? (pim) have been found in excavations of Palestinian sites. The average weight of such stones is 0.268 ounces, which is equivalent to about two-thirds of a shekel. This probably refers to the price charged by the Philistines for the services listed. See P. K. McCarter, I Samuel (AB), 238; DNWSI 2:910; and G. I. Davies, Ancient Hebrew Inscriptions, 259.

Yes they can make better translations now than they did in 1611.

What verses do IFBs ignore when reading their Bibles?

Here are just two that come to mind. How did they get in the Bible since IFBs don't dance?

Psa 149:3  Let them praise his name in the dance: let them sing praises unto him with the timbrel and harp.

Psa 150:4  Praise him with the timbrel and dance: praise him with stringed instruments and organs.

It's a shame ur current pastor believes this.

The first half of this verse can precipitate whole sermons calling down God's rath on all who criticize the Great Man of God.

They have cut the second half out of their Bibles as well as the next two verses.
They operate with complete partiality as in a caste system.

1Ti 5:19 ?? Against an elder receive not an accusation, but before two or three witnesses.

1Ti 5:20 ?? Them that sin rebuke before all, that others also may fear.

1Ti 5:21 ?? I charge thee before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, and the elect angels, that thou observe these things without preferring one before another, doing nothing by partiality.

Deu 21:20  And they shall say unto the elders of his city, This our son is stubborn and rebellious, he will not obey our voice; he is a glutton, and a drunkard.

Pro 23:20  Be not among winebibbers; among riotous eaters of flesh:
Pro 23:21  For the drunkard and the glutton shall come to poverty: and drowsiness shall clothe a man with rags.

Dr. Big Bottom would never use these verses as they hit too close to his "Big Sin", gluttony which is closely related to the sin of drunkenness as they both involve a lack of self control. It is that lack of self control that is the sin, not the food or alcohol.

Drunkenness and Gluttony tend to go together in scripture.

He can pontificate eloquently on the evils of alcohol but nary a word on the evils of food and gluttony which is an inordinate uncontrolled desire to consume more than that which one requires.

After all he did earn the name Dr. Big Bottom by eating to excess.

It's a shame ur current pastor believes this.

Here is an interesting passage about tithing.

Deu 14:22  Thou shalt truly tithe all the increase of thy seed, that the field bringeth forth year by year.
Deu 14:23  And thou shalt eat before the LORD thy God, in the place which he shall choose to place his name there, the tithe of thy corn, of thy wine, and of thine oil, and the firstlings of thy herds and of thy flocks; that thou mayest learn to fear the LORD thy God always.

Yes you read that right you are to take the tithe and have a feast for you and your family. Now what do you think your average IFB would say about spending the tithe on yourself?

Deu 14:24  And if the way be too long for thee, so that thou art not able to carry it; or if the place be too far from thee, which the LORD thy God shall choose to set his name there, when the LORD thy God hath blessed thee:
Deu 14:25  Then shalt thou turn it into money, and bind up the money in thine hand, and shalt go unto the place which the LORD thy God shall choose:

There is also an option to turn the tithe into money. And just look at what you are told to spend it on.

Deu 14:26  And thou shalt bestow that money for whatsoever thy soul lusteth after, for oxen, or for sheep, or for wine, or for strong drink, or for whatsoever thy soul desireth: and thou shalt eat there before the LORD thy God, and thou shalt rejoice, thou, and thine household,

Imagine your pastor telling you to take the money you would normally give to "the church" and spend it on a great feast for you and your household. Imagine him telling you to buy wine or strong or anything your soul desireth.

Well don't ever expect your pastor to tell you that, but it looks like God did.

Do not ever expect to hear a sermon on this passage.

It turns tithing on its head and blows up the Women's Christian Temperance Union's anti alcohol creed.

It's no wonder Catholics don't want people reading the Bible for themselves and maybe IFBs aren't so different from Catholics after all.

It's a shame ur current pastor believes this.

Keeping man made rules as if they were God's commandments produces an appearance of holiness that is absent the inner working of the Holy Spirit outwardly manifest to all.

No need to even be born again to appear holy.

This is reminiscent of the Pharisees who looked great on the outside but were dead men's bones on the inside.

It's a shame ur current pastor believes this.

It sure is convenient how when one wants to have wine mean grape juice they can pick and choose at will. Is wine grape juice here, no, the verse would not make sense if one were to say that grape juice is a mocker.

The cherry picking of definitions to meet ones own view point is a pernicious way to handle the Word of God. It is no wonder that people reject those teachers that teach drinking alcohol is a sin when they start to read the Bible for themselves.

Why not just be honest with people. Admit there is no prohibition on drinking alcohol. In fact in several places it is encouraged.

Pro 20:1  Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise.

It's a shame ur current pastor believes this.

Exo 19:18  And mount Sinai was altogether on a smoke, because the LORD descended upon it in fire: and the smoke thereof ascended as the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mount quaked greatly. (AV)

These could be twisted into a anti-smoking text.

Here is a much clearer better translation.

19:18 Now Mount Sinai was completely covered with smoke because the Lord had descended on it in fire, and its smoke went up like the smoke of a great furnace, 33  and the whole mountain shook 34  violently. (NET)

Mat 23:24  Ye blind guides, which strain at a gnat, and swallow a camel. (AV)

strain at is corrected here.

23:24 Blind guides! You strain out a gnat yet swallow a camel! (NET)

Some tend to fight for the bad translation.

The Bishop's Bible which was the base text for the KJV translators has strain out a camel.

http://www.bibles-online.net/1568/NewTestament/1-Matthew/

The KJV translators simply made a minor mistake in the translation.
