In honor of PappaBear.

Here's a good one that drunks love to ignore:

Jer 35:8  Thus have we obeyed the voice of Jonadab the son of Rechab our father in all that he hath charged us, to drink no wine all our days, we, our wives, our sons, nor our daughters;

God sure did commend the Rechabites through Jeremiah.  At the same time, he condemned those who parse His words and ignore His commands.

I sure hate liquor.  What a shame that lady who just drove into the Oklahoma State Homecoming parade didn't.  But, I guess, in your opinion, she was just exercising her liberty.  Yet at the end, wine does its mocking and strong drink rages on.

Here's a good one.

Pro 23:21  For the drunkard and the glutton shall come to poverty: and drowsiness shall clothe a man with rags.

Funny how overeating and drunkenness are often connected in scripture.

Agreed.  Twin sins that are both destructive.  Interesting how much a certain diet figures into sin.  For example,

The first command and the first sin ... eating the forbidden fruit
The people of Israel in the wilderness and their lust for meat instead of manna
Daniel who refused to defile himself by eating the king's meat and drinking the king's wine (notice the 2 together, again?)
Christ's condmenation of the crowd that followed Him after the feeding of the 5,000 and 4,000 that they just wanted a free lunch.
The apostle's decrees to the Gentiles not to eat meat sacrificed unto idols in Acts 15
And Christ's judgment against the churches of Pergamos & Thyatira in Rev 2 for eating things sacrificed to idols.

Yep, those 2 sins are often conjoined.  They both are evidence of unspiritual intemperance, llving in the flesh.

The women at the OS parade drank too much. Much like taking too much cough medicine.... or driving over the speed limit or driving under the speed limit or just generally being a bad driver..... or being elderly and hitting the gas instead of the brake....... we know its a sin to be elderly.....

People often say, "Jesus would NEVER make alcoholic wine that would allow people to get drunk!"

Thing is. Who created the natural ability for grapes to ferment?
likely came along when weeds....and thorns....and briars and stuff like that happened...because until the fall...there was no death.....therefore no decay.......therefore no fermenting.....

fairly simple.....

So when Jesus turned water into wine it probably was a wine unlike any other wine - a wine free from decay ?

Well, He did have that special blood. And never had any skin slough off. Or any hair fall out when he combed it (I almost said brushed but ... ).  And His clothes never wore out and He didn't ever need to go to the bathroom. So there is no reason He couldn't have made a wine that was unlike any other that had ever existed.

No sauerkraut?!?!!?

The irony here is that fermented foods like sauerkraut, kimchi, etc., are really good for you because they're fermented.  So, if fermenting is the result of the fall, God caused the fall in order to make foods better for our bodies?

It was the best wine, wonderful  alcoholic wine. All you need to read is the wedding planners response: vs.10 ?Everyone brings out the choice wine first and then the cheaper wine after the guests have had too much to drink; but you have saved the best till now.?
To say that Jesus made grape juice or wouldn't provide an opportunity to sin is ridiculous .

Maybe he was trying to sober the drunks up a little.  8)

fraid so....biblically anyhow....

see how putting the clues together brings out a lot in Gods word?  it takes some thinking and some deep consideration and not just taking a verse and a verse and a verse at face value.

God gave us brains.....to think...and to study....so adding all them things up.....that is a very logical conclusion
