Romans 2:1 exists in Vince's mind merely to sanctify his use of the "I know you are, but what am I?" retort.

Of course, the actual context of Romans 2 is that of that of self-righteous Jews who find the practices of the Gentiles abhorrent. No doubt as they read what Paul had written about the pagans in chapter 1, they would have nodded right along.

Of course, that's when Paul turns the tables on them. They aren't off the hook. They're guilty as well, because they boast in the Law of Moses, but break it in many ways. By chapter 3, of course, we know that "all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God" - Jew and pagan alike.

As long as Vince Massi continues to abuse God's Word by treating Romans 2:1 as a holy version of a childish taunt, he is a false teacher who shows gross disrespect to the Scriptures.

Let him defend his misuse of this verse exegetically--if he is capable.

Off-topic. Stick to the subject, Vince. - Ransom

So are you capable of defending your misuse of Romans 2:1 exegetically, Vince? Your first strike wasn't very encouraging.

You forgot, "accuser of the brethren".

Say what you want about Smellin's odd brand of theology, but at least he doesn't make up false accusations.

Interesting that the Calvinists get accused of being scorners when they are the ones arguing for a proper use of Scripture.

Oxymoron?

IFBdom has a way of not understanding Calvinism and its reliance on Scripture. They have all of these preconceived notions that are absurd.

I can't speak for anyone else, but I got my preconceived notions from reading their material.

Then if you read any Spurgeon (unedited by John R Rice), then you would not have an issue with Calvinism (or at least, shouldn't).

I would readily admit that there are some Calvinists (e.g., Sproul) who tend to be more philosophy-based in their books and could have interacted with Scripture more.

What are thes preconceived notions? I have come to realize many do not truly understand it and then mischaracterize the position.
