Wal Mart Vs. the Morons...

I now interrupt this trolling session to get the thread back on topic:

Anyone who thinks that working as a greeter, stocker, or cart wrangler at Wal Mart is a good way to make a living, take care of a family for the long haul, and is worth $15/hour or more is a stupid moron and is probably not even qualified to do the menial minimum wage tasks they are employed to do and should be fired to make room for somebody with more intelligence.  Disagree?  Prove it to be wrong.

Further, the only way to make a salary like that for a minimum wage job work would be to plunge further into tyranny and force customers to buy products they do not want for prices they cannot afford at Wal Mart, just like Obamacare.  Disagree?  Prove it to be wrong and stay on topic.

Since no one has made such a claim that I have seen, the bolded portion seems like a pretty good attempt at trolling to me.

FWIW WalMart has warehouse workers, truck drivers, procurement staff, logistics, fulfillment and many other positions that do pay reasonable, livable wages. But I digress. Carry on with the WalMart employee bashing.

I thank you Lord that I am not like this greeter or cart wrangler...

WalMart's profitability is artificially propped up by the government providing the services that the employees can't afford with the pay they receive. Most WalMart employees are eligible for Medicaid, housing assistance, food stamps, reduced school lunches. And yes, this includes those who are full time workers.

Right/wrong? idk but it isn't some brilliant business mind that says "hey let's build our business with indirect government subsidies for our workers keeping our payroll low". Corpfare anyone?
What should shelf stockers get paid?
How about people who collect up shopping carts?
What about they who sell the watches at the jewelry department?
What about the guy/gal who greets you at the door?
These are hardly skilled labor.
You could pay them all $12 an hour and they'd still be poor in today's economy.
With fuel, food and lodging prices the way they are, $12 and hour just aint making it.

Pay them $16.95 per hour .... with benefits. You wanna be the world leader in selling goods, fine, be also the world leader in treating your people fair.

Actually, Subliberal, yes, someone did make this claim.  Agree or disagree with Tim?  Why or why not, and, please do try to stay on topic.

A greeter is a perfectly good job for a retired senior adult who wants to make some extra money to supplement their retirement.  Heck, if I get bored enough, I might do this job one day when I retire.  It isn't a suitable job for a married couple trying to support a family.  So yes, I do thank God I'm not a cart wrangler or a greeter at this time of my life because those jobs would totally suck for trying to make a decent living and raise a family.  See the difference?

I don't see a greeter making that kind of money, no. I also don't see those people as "losers" which has also been part of the rhetoric used in these threads.

I probably missed that rhetoric.  Would you kindly quote the person who used it?  If anyone has used that rhetoric, then I would agree with you.

I say all of that to say this; many of those moron "losers" working at WalMart have degrees. They are are working in those dead end jobs because the above phenomenon has caught hold of them and they have to pay those loans somehow.

Oh!  Excuse me.  I'm sorry.  I found the person who was castigating those who work at Wal Mart as morons and losers.  Shame on you.

Of course I did.  Who, exactly, were you quoting?

This is actually not a problem at all.  The majority of employees are either teenagers trying to make some extra money to put gas in the car their parents bought them or senior adults like my mother in law who are supplementing the retirement and who enjoy working and getting out of the house and being around people.  Very few people with a brain go to Wal Mart on the regular employee level hoping to make a long term career where they can make a living and raise a family, and if they do, then they are a bunch of stupid idiots for thinking so.

BandGuy said:
And yes, those who wish to make a decent living doing menial tasks that a 10 year old could do are incredibly stupid.

BandGuy said:
Actually, right now, I just think you are the one who is stupid.  BTW, my mother in law works at Wal Mart as a greeter.  She is, however, unlike you, very intelligent because she realizes that this is merely a supplement to her retirement and a way to get out of the house and be around more people.  BTW, I don't think most people at Wal Mart are really delusional enough to think that working as a greeter is a great way to make a living.  You, however, appear to be stupid enough to think so.

BandGuy said:
Of course there are plenty of jobs that could be decent careers at Wal Mart.  None of them, however, involve duties that a general employee would do.  They are in management, computer services, etc... (stuff that people with degrees do).  To clarify further:  I do not believe my mother in law is stupid because she is a greeter.  She is actually quite intelligent.  The only people who I would classify as stupid would be those who think wrangling carts, stocking shelves, and working as a greeter, etc... should be anything other than an entry level job or a supplement to a person's retirement.

I don't think I said what you seem to hope I said while burning your strawman.  Try again, and this time, try being the least bit honest in this conversation and maybe people will take you seriously.

I haven't read all 12 pages of this stuff.  What I can tell you from first hand experience, WalDumb is a horrible company, treats its employees like crap and lies to them often.  There are some good/smart people who work there, but the average employee, has reached their potential and would be hard pressed to find another job elsewhere.
I have no problem with how much they make, sell or pay their employees.  It is a free country, and people are free to choose where they want to shop.  Eventually the free market will decide and right now, they are on top for sure.
Finally, I will say that I would not take an aspirin if I knew that a WalDumb pharmacist filled the prescription. Seen waaaaaaaay too much.

I'm sorry your experience was not positive.  My mother in law, however, loves working there and hopes to be carried out on a stretcher.  She could retire if she wished.  But she does not wish to do so.  She loves her job and the people she works with and for.  Of course, she spent many years as the wife of a farmer, and 20 something years working at a shoe factory, so she understands what truly hard work is and how it really is to be treated like crap by people who truly don't care about you.

I am sure your MIL is one of those good ones I mentioned.  But I have way too many experiences for me to buy anything there I don't have to. I have paid more and will continue to do so to shop elsewhere. They are a horrible company, especially the higher up in management you go.

I respect your right to do so and even respect that your experience has not been positive.  That is not, however, universal.  We have found the pharmacists at our local Wal Mart to be quite competent and helpful, and my MIL, who is a greeter, loves her bosses and loves working there.  My guess is, that the major reason she loves working is that compared to where she came from, this is a walk in the park.  I know this to be true, actually, by how she talks about all the lazy younger generation who never had to work really hard in their lives and think they are owed a living for nothing.

Interesting observation:
12 pages of commentary on why you love or hate Wal Mart, but no one commented on the gist of the article:
"You may think that I am complaining, but I am really laying the ground work for suggesting that MAYBE we should hire the guys who run Wal-Mart to fix the economy."

When we had our transportation business I drove many Walmart employees to doctors appointments..They were treated very poorly. I will drive past Walmart to not shop there...Big Lot's, Family Dollar, etc is so much better.

A new wal mart opened up about 20 minutes from us. The area is fairly depressed and I am sure they will benefit from walmart being there.

A couple of months ago, I heard some congressman being interviewed on a local talk show, his point was that Walmart did not pay their employees enough. I thought to myself no one is sticking a gun at any employee at Walmart to make them stay. If they want more money they are certainly welcome to go look for a better job or get more education so they can get more money.
back in 1996 I left the ministry in Iowa to move back to California. I began working at Staples office supply because we had at district manager going to our church and he got me the job. I was making $ 8.20 an hour. After about 6 months I realized that if I stayed at Staples I would be struggling financially for the rest of my life. I begin to pray and ask God for a better job. There was someone who worked at Boeing aircraft company at our church. I asked him what he did. He got me an interview and I got another job making well over 3 times when I was making at staples. The point is I didn't just gripe about not making enough money and begging for more, I did something about it and used my education and life experience to get a better job and it paid off God blessed my efforts.  I didn't just get the job because I had a friend in the field but I had the basic qualifications and the desire to learn a new job.I stayed at that job for 5 and a half years and became very successful in the field technical writing something I had never done before.
