Yesterday was Father's Day. Tell me how you celebrated, and what it means to you to be a dad.

Being a father is like having your heart and soul existing outside of you in the life of another human being 24/7.

Yesterday, all of my family (wife and four other kids) except my youngest son were out of state somewhere, and my son took me to a really nice restaurant and bought me a giant steak. Very thankful that he did that. Then he left to go out of state and I'm here dog-sitting two mutts!

Since I just got back in town, I didn’t feel like going out and doing much of anything. I got to choose the menu for breakfast (eggs and biscuits & sausage gravy) and lunch (BBQ sandwiches, slaw and squash casserole). For dinner we grilled cheese burgers with the in-laws. Otherwise, we just took a family walk at the nearby park and I watched the US Open golf tournament.

Being a dad means a lot. I’m blessed to have a job that keeps me mostly at home. I complain about having to occasionally go out of town for a couple of days, but I’ve met a lot of guys who are out of town a couple weeks each month. I’d rather make a little less in salary and be mostly at home. I never want to worry about my health or anything like that, but the older I get, the more I think that as long as my kid is good, I’m satisfied.

We kept it simple, BBQ, laughs, and quality time. I gifted Dad a personalized leather wallet and he really love it :) little gifts mean alot.. :)

It certainly changes one. Suddenly my life was all about my daughter. The tragedy is, the woman God gave me didn't share that sense of mission. She was still all about herself.

To defer to her, which I thought was my obligation, when I knew it hurt the children, was excruciating. I always thought, there will be a day when the truth will win out, I'll have a chance to explain...

Well, that's what people say alot, but it's bunk. Absolute dung heap.

Being a father is the best of times, and the worst of times.
