Col 1:24 Now I rejoice in what I am suffering for you, and I fill up in my flesh what is still lacking in regard to Christ?s afflictions, for the sake of his body, which is the church.

The continuing affliction of the apostles for the sake of the body of Christ. Christ suffered for a period of time. They continued in that affliction for the body Christ they now lead.

"lacking" isn't about lacking in quality. Its just lacking in length of time to which the apostles would complete in their own lives.... or finish the work that Christ began.

Hope this helps.

It helps if that's what he meant.  But from the wording, it seems more like he's saying "what is lacking in regard to Christ's afflictions".  In fact, that is what he's saying, even if he meant what you wrote.

What else could he mean? Those who are heirs with Christ also suffer with him (Rom. 8:17). Paul is saying his suffering for Christ's sake and the church's sake is not complete. That's all.

Certainly he's not saying that Christ's own sufferings were insufficient, and he needs Paul to take up the slack.

That is what he said....."lacking" is a valid translation. Ransom is ignoring this. Its not the "lacking" we would immediately perceive.

The apostles finished the example of suffering to the body of Christ.

. . . he says, immediately following a post where I discuss what Paul was saying was "lacking."

What colour is the sky in your world, Yeezy?

I didn't see you use that word. Where is it? "Not complete" isn't the first thought that comes to mind when someone reads.... "lacking".

I probably used some other word or phrase, such as "not complete."

Someone who understands English at a basic level would recognize the equivalency. Perhaps that's why you missed it.

"Not complete" isn't the first thought that comes to mind when someone reads.... "lacking".

Not in your case, anyway. It seems that the first thing that always comes to your mind is to rant and rave like a senile old loony.
