What your "pastor" is lying to you about!

Do you feel like God has appointed you like Paul appointed Titus and Timothy?

I said everyone should recognize the gifts that God gave to the Body.

I feel like I have the same Holy Spirit that they did.  I have more of the Scriptures than they had.  And I have a community of believers that likewise can provide unity in recognizing the one God calls to shepherd His people.  So in a word, yes, I do believe I've been appointed among the priesthood to use my soul liberty and discernment to assist my brothers and sisters in calling/recognizing those who might lead us.

Typical answer.

I can claim the same things. You don't have more of the Scripture than they had..... and it wouldn't really make a difference. They heard so many things that didn't survive. They were true blessed and taught in ways you can't begin to claim comparison.

Well, I don't really know what you mean.  Are you suggesting that when the church at Jerusalem met that they had all of the Scripture that we have today?  Do you think all the churches that appointed pastors then had ALL the Scriptures when they met?  Provide historical proof if you believe that.

They had enough. They made it just fine with what they had. In fact, better....

I was making the point, that you missed, that the early church were taught things that did not find their way into the Scripture. Many things that did not find its way into the various epistles and writings that survived.

Do you really not know this?

I'll give you two example. We talk about it...

2Th 2:5  Remember ye not, that, when I was yet with you, I told you these things?

I've often thought of just how much Paul taught those in attendance. Things that would have made the end time events much clearer to the reader.

Luk 10:24  For I tell you, that many prophets and kings have desired to see those things which ye see, and have not seen them; and to hear those things which ye hear, and have not heard them.

Surely you can't believe that we received everything that Jesus said or did. They were truly blessed. Jesus, Himself, said so.

Brother, I love you, really, I do.  I appreciate you in ways you might not know, but you are all over the place.  I said I had the Holy Spirit that they had. I said I had the Scriptures (and more) that they had.  I said that I have other believers to help guide me in the discernment of God's will.  I did NOT say I had all that the writings and communications that the early church had, and I DON'T need them either!  I have the very words of God that He intended for me to have for all matters of faith and practice, including how to call a shepherd.

I appreciate you too brother. I apologize for my tone. I admit I've been aggravated with the comments of others recently.

I was feebly trying to make the point that we often look the wrong way at various things. Titus and Timothy had the privilege of being extensively trained by Paul. Those in the early church had a privilege that often overlook. We think we have some advantage because we say we have the completed "canon". Often, its just bluster. They knew so much more than we do today.

I'm not trying argue against someone choosing a pastor by taking a vote. I'm just trying to put it into perspective so we might take it more seriously.

I realize that often get into arguing a particular point and I lose myself in the point.... to the point.... Its really not making sense to anyone but me.... :)

There's no doubt that throughout history there have been people groups that have been blessed to have access to more or less of God's word. That is a historically and Biblically attestable fact.  Regardless of that fact, I wouldn't deny that Paul and the Apostles were special folk, but in respect to the chore/privilege of continuing God's church, we have all we need to make wise and appropriate choices.
