According to 1 Cor. 6, believers are not to take one another to court. Obviously, this passage has been abused and misinterpreted and not followed as God intended. Where does a church or a pastor draw the line here? Given the number of sexual offenses being reported today, is it even possible for a church to handle a situation properly without involving the courts? Can a victim be properly protected ? Can an offender be properly disciplined and, hopefully restored?  Does the church have the degree of oversight and accountability needed to mark such an offender?

Personally, I think not; but, 1 Cor. 6 is there for a reason. Where is the balance?

Not taking a brother to court, first and foremost, deals with brothers (and sisters) in the faith. If churches would put out these child molesters as false professors of the faith (as was done with the fornicating young man at Corinth), there would be no issue.

These men are to be treated as unbelievers, Period. If they repent and over time demonstrate that they have put away their sin, a church can recognize that they are in the faith. But it is not the role of the church to provide fellowship to every oversexed, porn loving, child molesting dog who wants to repeat a sinner's prayer.

This issue is not cured by "balance." It is cured when these churches stop picking and choosing which doctrines they think are still relevant and instead start rebuking and  booting out men who worship their own lusts and appetites.

Thank God there is hope for anyone.

"Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God." 1Cor. 6:9-11

Sad that they are lost and their churches keep telling them that they are saved. It's not "Such are" but "Such were"
