He listened for 18 hours!

It's sad that those typify the sermons preached in so many places today. I've listened to a number of them as well (not the ones listed in the article, but from some of the same people), and those messages do nothing but pump people full of false hope in themselves.

Having been traveling since 2011, 28 different states and a new location every week or two, we found only a handful of church services where we used our Bibles and understood it better.

This is not just a problem with the big churches... it seems many preachers don’t trust their Bibles.

.. it seems many preachers don’t trust their Bibles.
How can they when they don't even know if they have the verbal word of God?

I tried indoctrinating my parishioners and they only wanted milk and could barely handle that.
Maybe not all, but 30 years in the church babes in Christ who could barely be cumbered about to LEARN.
They still can't even find certain books in the Bible.
It gets frustrating.

That is so pathetic.
Well, after being taught in Seminary, hearing hundreds of preachers say, and reading so many margin footnotes saying:
"A better translation would be," "That wasn't in the oldest and most reliable transcripts", "The translators should not have...", etc. etc. etc.
When you have translations leaving out entire verses and saying things that diametrically oppose other translations:
When you have a version of the month club, what happens?
A distrust, a lack of interest, a weakening of the truth, or worst of all: Confusion.
Can you blame the preachers for not trusting their Bibles?
They've been taught otherwise...
Can you blame the people for not hungering and wanting to hear sound doctrine?
When there is no final authority, there is NO real authority.
Let's not even consider KJVO.
How about saying, the NIV is THE word of God?
How about the NKJV?
What about the NCV, the RSV or the ASV?
No one will and no one wants to.
The watering down of the truth from multiple versions is reaching its inevitable conclusion: "Yea, hath God said?"
No wonder the lethargy.
Climbing off my soap box now.

Funny how I asked a clarifying question, and one person called it "pathetic" because, being a member of the numbskull community, he'd rather live in a fog of ignorance and confusion; and another assumes the original author was advocating KJV-onlyism.

What truth has been watered down?

What truth has been watered down?
For one thing:
Philippians 2:6 New Century Version (NCV)
6 Christ himself was like God in everything.
But he did not think that being equal with God was something to be used for his own benefit.

Next: The NIV New York Oxford Press, copyright 1978 by the New York International Bible Society:
From my own library...This was the first Bible I ever purchased:
Phil. 2:6
"Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped."

Philippians 2:6 (KJV)
6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:

They all say something completely different.

Yeah. I notice, for example, that the KJV says Jesus only had the "form" of God, not the very nature of God.
Philippians 2:6 New Revised Standard Version, Anglicised (NRSVA)
6 who, though he was in the form of God,
did not regard equality with God
as something to be exploited,

Philippians 2:6 English Standard Version (ESV)

Philippians 2:6 Darby Translation (DARBY)

Completely different? How so?

So the KJV says Christ had only the "form" of God, not a divine nature, and the liberal NRSV agrees. Gotcha.

Wow, that was a GREAT soapbox!

And so true, just look at this forum, it's filled with people in the same boat.

No final authority. Just stumbling along in the dark.

Keep your KJV flashlight going there, brother, and give them light!

Hey, you know what else agrees with the kJV in teaching Jesus only had "God's form" in Phil. 2:6?

The New World Translation of the Jehovah's Witnesses.

Good job agreeing with a cult, KJVers.
