Dave and Paula's Wedding

I was just watching a wedding on tv. Everyone stood for the bride, which is the typical tradition.

The only wedding I ever attended where that was not done was Dave and Paula's wedding. I sat in the balcony with other college students. Some of us began to stand, and Bro. Hyles stopped us and said something like, "We don't stand for the bride here." I'm sure he explained his reasoning back then, but I don't remember it. Frankly, I'm sure it didn't make sense to me.

Has anyone else experienced that at another wedding? Just curious.

Also, I did a search on the forum to see if I was repeating myself and found this below:

"You are correct. Bro. Hyles did indeed know about DH and his immoral actions.
I personally witnessed deacons and other members tell him and ask him what he was going to do about it. This was years before he was sent to Miller Road.
One night at deacons meeting a local police chief who was also a deacon told about finding DH naked in the back of DH car with an underage girl in his town. Well it was right after this that DH became the new Miller Road pastor.

Yes he knew.
Yes he lied about repeatedly."

Think how many more shattered lives there were after this incident.

Sherry, how many years has it been since Brent Stevens died and no charges brought against Dave and Brenda? Very sad.

My original question was about the wedding.

Have you ever been to a wedding where the attendees did not stand for the bride?
 
Jo, I searched it Jeri Massi did great research on this no date was given . But I would say back in 1978-1980. Preacher Boys did a great podcast on this . I read somewhere he did the fifth and did not speak about it in court.
I've always stood for the bride.

My thoughts on dh is justice is coming not always when we want it.

I was at (and in) several FBC weddings back in the day and don't remember anyone ever standing as the bride entered. Seems like it would've made it very difficult to see, in that size auditorium.
 
I've been pondering why I even cared whether we sat or stood as the bride entered, which is the customary tradition in most churches.

Traditionally, it has been done to show respect and appreciation, but there is the rub.

I don't think Jack Hyles had much respect, if any, for women. That's a bold statement, but after years of reading about the cover-ups, the blatant disregard for the victims of sexual abuse, not only at FBC Hammond but also at numerous other IFB churches around the United States, that is my conclusion. He was a powerful leader and speaker. If only he had cared for the victims as much as he did the predators.

My father did not attend church, but he taught me important lessons as a teenager. As we walked down the street, he often said, "The lady walks on this side of the street. The man walks on this side. It's a way for the man to protect you." Later, he would say, "Be sure to let the man open the door for you as you enter a building." These were very small reminders and sometimes annoying to me as a teenager, but now in my later years, I miss my father a great deal.

A healthy relationship between a father and daughter can keep many predators away.

I will continue to stand as brides enter at weddings. To me, it symbolizes something reverent is about to take place, and the union of two people who share faith, love, and family is a holy event.

The timing of this is really messed up. Along with the who of the "police chief" who was not a chief but an officer and not a deacon but his father was, and the girl in the car in this case was not underage and this incident happened considerably after DH was found out with his involvement with JER. Also when the deacons were asking Bro Hyles what he was going to do about DH it was, Ironically. Vic Nischik saying 'Touch not God's anointed." I know, Mind blown huh. Truth has a way of doing that.
 
Interesting. I copied the testimony written on this forum on April, 29, 2013 by bgwilkinson. He wrote that he “personally witnessed” it.

Do you dispute his testimony? Were you in the same room with the deacons, or did you hear about it from someone else?

Here is my involvment. My dad was a deacon during those meetings. He had already left FBCH when he told me those things and had not positive agenda towards FBCH in telling me. It was just the Irony of it being Vic who was saying it. Like the irony of Mr. Hyles Anderson who used to do 123 repeat soulwinning for numbers and then accused EVERYBODY of doing his sin. Or the Mr. 100% for Jack Hyles buttons and then became the largest criticizer of people wearing what he actually promoted. 2. I used to stay over night at JER's house as I was friends with her brother. 3. I was very, very close friends with the girl in the car with DH and her husband. 4. I went too school with the police officer that made the report. He was a year younger. It happened actually at Baptist City. He was a patrolman. 5. I was for a period of time very good friends with Vic's wife. My family was "supper club" IYNYN. It was inner circle. I call balls and stikes fairly. I know the mistakes and the truth of virtually evey scandal known and unknown at FBCH. I could go on with other things I was deeply involved with myself including but I wont get into all that. I know BGWilkinson well and we have some different perspectives but I believe him a good man and wish no disputations with him based on decades old memories.

Bet you didn't know that DH's Dad disciplined his son publically March 17th 1991 in the PM Service? A bit late I know but I was there. I wasn't an active member at the time as I had been away but I went specifically to that service as I was tipped off it was going to happen.

TidesofTruth, The only disappointment I have is Bro Wilkinson sided with the pastor from Calif. on the abuse that was happening with young girls. Let us Prey an eye opening account of the abuse. I don't watch any of his sermons etc. I was just on the website and nothing to see. My husband was on security and told me the stories. He passed away 4 years ago. I wish you well

or when good men may not be good men at all.

I think it's time for the wives, sisters, and daughters to start telling what they know.
