Anyone following the latest on Noah's Ark?

So, when 7.4 says it rained forty days and forty nights, we are supposed to believe this is an allegory (your words), then you shift to calling it an idiom that is an indeterminate amount of time. I guess the number, 110 days in 7:24 must also be some idiom that stretches the story into an...

Anyone following the latest on Noah's Ark?

First, idioms are not the same as allegory. Idiomatic sayings are understood normally in their context. They are not allegory. I maintain that these were normal days. Moses also used "forty days" to compare to "forty years." Not exactly idiomatic. Numbers 13:25 The spies were gone for forty...

Anyone following the latest on Noah's Ark?

The number 40 days is not an idiom. They are normal days. Moses, the writer, always uses the word "yom" to refer to a normal day. When Moses says Noah was 600 years, is that an idiom as well? Allegorical interpretations are not the same as a historical/grammatical approach to Scripture.

In practice, how does this look in your church? Is there a formal meeting with the church voting?

Let's talk about the word "standards"

Better than making up rules that don't exist. The Bible tells us how to deal with the unsaved who want to leave a marriage. It's not a stretch of application in my mind. Why pester the unsaved who don't want to hang around? Just let them go and take them off the membership rolls.

Let's talk about the word "standards"

I have a bit of a different perspective on this... The Bible is not explicit in the process of leaving a church, mid discipline. The Bible DOES give instruction to a woman, whose unbelieving spouse wants to leave... "let him go." Since there is no particular directive given regarding the...

Let's talk about the word "standards"

I hosted a ski trip with multiple churches. One youth group, all the girls wore skirts over ski pants. The youth pastor wore a suit coat!! The next week, after the trip, the youth pastor called me and said he was disappointed our "standards" were so low. I asked him if he was a Baptist and...
