Amos, Prosperity and America

Would you be so kind as to point out her "success" outside of having been born?

BTW I'm not jealous of her wealth but I find it weird that she is so concerned about mine.

And I have a question for you; why did God let a "democrap" like Amos write a book of the OT decrying the mistreatment of poor people? If "All scripture is given ...." I would think that we have an obligation to seek out what Amos is teaching. This is true even if it goes against our political idolatry.

Why would I comment on someone you're too much of a coward to name?

Amos couldn't have been a democrap. They didn't exist until the first democrap President enjoyed removing a bunch of Indians from existence." I'd say that Amos may have something to say about that as well.

I suspect you could care less about Amos has to say about anything. You're just trying to push your democrap agenda. Hence, I doubt you've really ever helped anyone. It doesn't take the rich to help the poor. Everyone should help the poor.

The fact you want to target the rich.... proves you're jealous and narrow minded.... A trait made famous by democraps.

By the way... All Scripture is given by inspiration of God.... In like manner.... I've never heard one democrap in my life quote 2 Thessalonians 3:10.... NOT ONE.

2Th 3:10  For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat.

Umm, it is the people who work for a living that she said are overpaid. Not one thing in my post about her thoughts or statements on non working people. As I have no idea what she thinks about that issue I make no pretense that I do.

But hey let that knee jerk reaction control you. Maybe someday you can take the time to read what I wrote as opposed to read into it what you think I think.

But just for the sake of clarity I will put this in a nutshell for you. Woman who was born into wealth that she never worked for nor earned, makes a bold proclamation that the economic troubles of her home state are due, not in part but in whole, to the pay scale of the working people. Her having never run a business nor worked at a paying job, I find her claim to an expertise on the subject suspect.

BTW I'm not a democrat or a republican.

2 Tim 2:3 Share in suffering as a good soldier of Christ Jesus. 4 No one serving as a soldier gets entangled in the concerns of civilian life; he seeks to please the recruiter.

2 cor 5:19 That is, in Christ, God was reconciling the world to Himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and He has committed the message of reconciliation to us. 20 Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, certain that God is appealing through us. We plead on Christ’s behalf, “Be reconciled to God.” 21 He made the One who did not know sin to be sin for us, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.

Sometimes I believe we get too involved in these political debates that really get nowhere because we all know that the only peace we will ever find is in Christ

Knowing that our only true peace comes from God..... doesn't change the desire to want things to be better in our everyday life.

I assume she received the just rewards of her parents. Just like the only eternal things you've ever received from God comes from Him and HIM alone. You just benefit from your relationship with HIM. You didn't earn ANYTHING.

What matters is what she does with what she has. You shouldn't be question the origins of her wealth. You may question her expertise.... but its pretty obvious you're also attacking her because "she didn't earn it".

Actually, if you go back and read my initial point, you will see that the issue was her tone deaf pontificating that cost her husband the election (whom I voted for BTW). She gave the dems a huge gift of class warfare ammo. They used it to whip him good in the election. Now tie that to all the "dead beat/moron/ baby daddy" rhetoric on display here and ask yourself why few if any believe that there is any such beast as a compassionate conservative.

Most compassionate conservatives don't "trumpet" their charity.

Do conservatives run their mouth too much. YES. That is a HUGE problem... Yet, I would rather have someone talk too much than someone that refuses to say what they honestly believe for fear of losing an election. Or worse yet.... LIE to just win an election.

Who has a building housing a charity with 10 foot letters of the owner on the side? Dishonest hack.

Never heard of Carnegie Hall? Really? Now multiply that times every little town library, hospital, convention hall, sports arena, university dormitory, ad infinitum.

Yeah, no one has ever given money and gotten "immortality" in granite in return.  ::)

And again with the name calling. Really? What are you twelve?

Sorry. Carnegie Hall isn't a charity. Pay attention.... would ya???

Jesus called people names. Paul called people names. I just call them like I see them.

I'll convert you shortly....one way or another.... ;)

Building a library or school isn't considered charity anymore? The people who get their name on those buildings don't take the charitable giving deductions available? Your local community doesn't have any buildings with the names of big donors on them? If it does, none of them gave the money without taking advantage of the tax reductions available? Wow, that is a remarkable town.

So you're actually attacking someone for giving to charity and then claiming a tax deduction? While I wouldn't personally do it. (well I might.. .it depends really)... Just who are you to make such a judgement? Talk about dishonest debate. The immortality of the standard you're setting is ridiculous.

One of my favorite books of the Bible. :)

Their refusal to repent led to the Assyrian captivity. The mixing of religions during that time is how the hated Samaritans came to be. Kind of interesting that their sin was lack of compassion and Jesus taught that a Samaritan could show more compassion than the religious leaders of his day.

I wonder what Amos would think of the revulsion American Christians show towards the poor in our midst.

Do you have someone or some particular situation in mind or did you intend to make a broad brush denouncement of American Christianity as a whole?

You said that charitable givers don't toot their horn. I pointed out that there a plenty of buildings with horn tooting names on them all over the country. No attack, just an observation showing that your tootless claim is false.

Unwed mothers and their "baby daddies". Illegal immigrants. Raging on about "dead beats" getting food stamps. All sentiments provided by Christian friends that post their confused theology on FB or forward email spam with the same or similar nonsense. Then you add in the recommended scorched earth approach "solutions" to these problems and you can see the hardened heart that has resulted from mixing politics with what should be pure religion.
