Yep.  Really is sad to see.  Addicts only admit to what has been discovered.  Apparently he was not really repentant in the last round of truth.

Yup, my wife and I were saying the same thing. Had he just confessed all at first, this would be a non story
 
reading the post from his parents, it would seem as though he was not honest with them, either.

This is what happens in western fundy Christian culture when all the emphasis is placed on looking right, talking right, behaving right, so much focus on the outward and very little if any on a personal relationship with Christ.  In stead of a honest open approach to sex with a Biblical view fundies have made it gross, sinful, unnatural.

Duggars = everything that is wrong in fundy land, and what we are seeing played out in the media is reality in every extreme fundy school, college, church, they are just doing a better job of hiding it.
 
Porn is a major component in this story too. It's not just an issue with the Duggars and fundies. Many don't want to expose porn for what it is and parents especially don't warn their children about it. They can put up all the safeguards (internet filters) they want but once they are out of the house and on their own they don't have that any more.

...and it's posts like this that make me bring up Tullian Tchividjian. If we are going to blame a system of doctrine and practice every time one of these things happens there is plenty of blame to go around. I am weary with the constant throwing of the IFB movement under the bus.

The problem is the devil. The problem is sin. It is a world wide human problem.

The Duggars quickly modified the statement to omit the confession about porn, probably because he is a known pedophile. I suspect the police/feds might want  to see what is stored on Josh's computers.

I'll have to agree with Tom on this one. This problem is all throughout the spectrum of Christendom.  I recall James Dobson telling a story about a large group of youth that were preparing for ministry at one of his training conferences.  He was stunned at how many admitted to various forms of heavy petting, doing so (rationalizing) in the wake of the Bill Clinton "I did not have sex with that woman" culture that said if it ain't all out intercourse then it aint sex. 

I will agree with you however, that the ingredient that is the same in the equation, whether fundy or evangelical, is a lack of a personal walk with Christ (often disguised by some code of external Christian conformity/rules).

They could do that but he hasn't committed any crime (except breaking God's law) recently and there's no reason to suspect any thing. The porn viewing started àround the time he was married long after his early teen crime. I don't think he even had internet back then. My personal opinion is Josh is a sex addict not a typical pedophile. Sex addicts start young with young people close to their age but more often too young. It cand include pedophilia but pedophilia is not the normal or continuous thing for them. If he spent that much time and money on Ashley Madison (even  wanting a guarantee) it's clear he's more interested in adults. This is just my opinion. He was very quick to admit all this and unlike some didn't try to excuse it or blame it on someone else or worse yet do what Slick Willie did.
 
Josh Duggar was preying on his 5 year old sister when he was 15. He is a pedophile. His vile parents covered for him. I would not be shocked about any other hideous revelations coming from that family.

Do you like that really broad, wide brush I used?

The reason is because the Duggars are/were the poster family that IFBers tried to become...they set themselves up as a look at our family, this is the right way...walk ye in it.  Kinda like the Hyles kids back in the 70's and boy do we all know how that turned out.

I've seen it way too many times in IFBx land.

Put yourself on a pedestal and you can count on someone taking aim at you. It would be a pretty rare individual who could stand there and not have something in their closet waiting to take them down.
 
I think I read this morning a blog from the TGC about trying to shelter our kids from the world and the error we make...thought this was a great quote.  "sin in not primarily something we need to be shelters from, but delivered from."

That is the ugly deceit behind the boxes and lines and fences of "standards". We never teach them how to actually contend for truth and prepare for battle. And worse that that, we do not prepare them for failure.
 
The difference between the IFBxers and Tullian Tchividjian is that  Tullian Tchividjian never claimed to be the "holy, separated" one that xer's claim to be. That's why there isn't the uproar about Tullian Tchividjian's adultery than what was made with the xer's and Duggars.

I believe there was plenty of uproar on all parts.  How loud the uproar is may very well be determined by your proximity to the roar.  In other words, if you don't run in those circles and are not influenced by those people, you really don't hear much about it. 

Case in point, most Southern Baptists don't even know that Jack Hyles existed.  The ones who do, know that he had a large church that ran alot of buses, and that is all they know.  They haven't heard about all of the scuttlebut and don't even know who Jack Schaap is.
