For those of you who attended FBC/HAC - Dick Barr a long time member of FBC passed away yesterday (Thursday, December 18).  His daughter Lynn Barr Andrews got to greet him in Heaven.  He is being buried on December 22nd the day that Lynn passed away in 1988.  He had a sense of crazy humor.  Please pray for the family, but especially for Mrs. Barr who is in a residential facility for dementia.  God has another angel.

I just looked it up on the Memory Lane website.  Yes, his wife is Dot Barr.  I did not know she had dementia.
What a sweet, godly couple.
Thank God for heaven.

The Barr's are one of my earliest memories of FBC.  When you're too young to sit in "Big Church" in the late 60's,
you were in Mrs Barr's SS department and I've loved her ever since.  Mr Barr was a SS teacher in Junior I and taught junior boys the Bible and gave them a phenomenal role model for them to respect and from whom they could learn. These are whom I have great, lasting memories of FBC.

I know there are a lot of negative that can be said about FBC, but not a week goes by I don't hear a story or memory of some Godly couple who made such a difference in young lives. Many who grew up at FBC & others who only spent 4 years there were greatly influenced by some very wonderful people.

So much attention is given to the pastor & senior staff members, but I think in most churches God works through those unseen & sometimes unknown Godly people who quietly change people’s lives every day for the better.

When we get to Heaven we may be surprised & what a difference some of these folks made.

Yes, souls were saved and lives were changed for the good at FBCH because of these mostly unknown
godly saints, in spite of the pastors and senior staff members.

If FBCH depended upon its former pastors it would have gone out of business, it is these unknown people that do the work, pay the bills (including pastor's salaries) and keep the place going.

"So the last shall be first, and the first last: for many be called, but few chosen."

Yes! Excellent Post!!

Gives me pause every time I see the thread, but I believe we can surmise it is meant to say, "Another precious soul in Heaven"

Some of those from this era at FBC probably also knew Mrs. Mary Douglas (wife of Marlin) who passed away this week, as well.  The Barr & Douglas families were like extensions of my own throughout my childhood; it's so sad to lose them.

I'm not familiar with the phrase "precision soul".  Is that unique to FBCH folks?

I chuckled as I read that for the first time.

When I use my Kindle to post, words that I did not intend sometimes show up.

Oh they are spelled correctly, that is the point, the auto spell check in these new-fangled devices just make a guess at what you want and then uses the word it wants to use.

I think we all knew what was meant by the context.

Context, context, context.

When you read a lot of pre 1600s books you become very adept at auto-spell-check as you read.

See how you do on this.

With a little practice one can read this just as easily as a modern book done in Times New Roman with all modern spelling.

I will read just about any pre1600 book, if I haven't already...
WTS, this link cane back "invalid URL".

As a kid growing up at FBC in the 70's, Mr. Douglas was an usher in the balcony behind the piano.  This was the same time frame that "Dukes of Hazard" was extremely popular and Mr Douglas and Boss Hogg looked identical to one another!

FBC had a TV star as an usher.

This post is not quite 3 months old, and today, his precious wife, Mrs. Dot Barr, joined him in Heaven.  In my 47 years, she was truly my most favorite lady at FBC.  I will miss her and her sweet personality.  She was one of the first Christian examples to many FBC children as she led the 3 year old SS Dept for decades.  Many were drawn to Christ at an early age because of her faithfulness to teach about Jesus to the little ones at FBC.

Many times, my family and the Barrs would get together to make things for the 2 & 3 year old Sunday School classes - things like homemade cookbooks, construction-paper Easter baskets for the toddlers, or decorations for the departments.  I don't remember a time when they weren't a part of my life.

I loved Mrs. Barr and can just imagine her joy at seeing Mr. Barr and Lynn again.
