Billy Graham: Why The Hate?

Did "Brother Greg" also do an expose on Billy Sunday for sending converts in his crusades back to Catholic churches?  Just wondering...

Billy Sunday sending converts back to the Catholic church?

Got any documentation for this?

I am aware that he did avoid criticizing of the Roman Catholic church and popery directly. And of course he was wrong for doing that. Sunday should have preached hard against the evils of Roman Catholicism and the wicked and vile Papacy.

Now I also have heard that at some of his meetings there were members of some elite groups also present, but that Sunday still preached hard on Hell and Damnation even with those elitists there.

I am guessing you miss the irony of you asking for documentation !

I'll have to go back and find it. Pretty sure I posted it here in the past.

What "elite groups" do you allude to but not name?

"Sunday was not a separationist as were many Protestants of his era. He went out of his way to avoid criticizing the Roman Catholic Church and even met with Cardinal Gibbons during his 1916 Baltimore campaign. Also, cards filled out by "trail hitters" were faithfully returned to the church or denomination that the writers had indicated as their choice, including Catholic and Unitarian.[53]

Dorsett, 80?81; Firstenberger, 30. A short but striking first-person account of Sunday's 1915 Syracuse campaign by a Universalist clergyman is Frederick W. Betts, Billy Sunday: The Man and the Method (Boston: Murray Press, 1916.) Betts was clearly disgusted by Sunday but awestruck by the power of his personality and sermons over even his educated acquaintances.

"Unusual for American evangelists, Sunday also addressed social issues of the day. He supported women's suffrage, called for an end to child labor, and included blacks in his revivals, even when he toured the deep South. This made him enemies, as did his support of Roman Catholics (whom he considered fellow Christians) and Jews. On one of the hottest topics of the day, evolution, he walked a tightrope: he had no sympathy for evolution, but neither did he warm up to Genesis literalists."

Well from a source I recently looked up, I could not find any names of those who had took part directly in his meetings. But the source does say that Sunday had been welcomed into the circle of the political, social, and economic elite. Being mainly politicians, Business men, some Hollywood celebrities, and so forth. Apparently Billy Sunday had even became acquainted with John D.  Rockefeller, Jr. and had counted him as one of his friends. But even though brother Sunday had became acquainted with these politicians, and Business men, he still did not alter or change his bold style of preaching. He continued to preach using Biblical terms such as Hell and Damnation. In other words, he still preached a literal Heaven and a literal Hell. And he never air conditioned Hell, (like false prophet Billy Graham has). Here is the link to the source I referenced earlier though.

BB - I figured you would know the Illuminati is using the New World Encyclopedia to bring about one world government.

Thanks for the documentation. Very disappointed that Sunday did not take a strong and bold stand against the Roman Catholic church.

What wrong did brother Ian R.K. Paisley do?

Brother Ian R. K. Paisley i know was strongly against popery, the Roman Catholic Papacy and their damnable heresies.

Tony Hutson took to criticizing Graham for rubbing elbows with the Pope and for having fake celebrity "Christians" appear at the crusaded claiming Graham got them saved. False teacher Carl Lentz does this with Kevin Durant and Justin Beiber and also Craig Groeschel and Ed Young as well recently. Young had a sermon series with former wrestlers and there was no scripture in text, it was just Young the false teacher getting a kickback from WWE and using carnal needs to get people into his superficial church.

Jack Hyles criticized Graham to no end and Jack Schaap spared Graham no quarter either.

Well, Graham has to be completely innocent of all compromise since Hutson, Trieber and Hyles are against him. Great circular logic.

Hyles hated Graham with a passion because Graham had "fake celebrity Christians" at his crusade and because he rubbed shoulders with Catholics and with Paul Crouch.

Today Tony Hutson, Larry Brown, and Jack Trieber carry on Hyles' tradition of hating Billy Graham and now Franklin because he's buddying up to TBN/PTL Club prosperity preachers.

With heavy hitters like that using their influence against him, Franklin Graham snd his ministry are doomed to fail.
Twisted, you can Google Franklin Graham to find out who he is…

Well I guess when everyone from Bob Jones Sr to Jack Hyles to Tony Hutson to Jack Trieber to Larry Brown to Todd Friel to Bill Maher hates your guts, that makes you popular.

So when is Frankie Boy gonna come out and admit his love for Critical Race Theory and Black Lives Matter?

I don't think any fundamentalists really hated Billy Graham. According to Kevin Bauder of Central Baptist Seminary, they loved Graham but couldn't go along with his ecumenical evangelism:

"Anyone who wants to understand the fundamentalist view of Billy Graham has to remember just how deeply Billy was loved in fundamentalist circles and how heavily fundamentalist leaders had invested in his ministry. When Billy adopted the method of cooperative evangelism, they could hardly believe it. Worse, Billy was using his old, fundamentalist connections to draw people into cooperative evangelism after him. That is when disbelief gave way to disappointment, and disappointment to a necessary, public opposition. The difference was a serious one, and these leaders felt the need to say something, since Graham threatened to sweep their followers after him by the strength of his charisma. They felt perplexed and betrayed. But they never stopped loving Billy Graham, even when they disagreed publicly and sharply with his methods."

Graham did take criticism from both sides especially when he partnered with Paul Crouch and TBN and celebrities who were not Christian were shown on TV at Graham's Crusades. Carl Lentz and Craig Groeschell copied that from Graham, especially Lentz who had fake "Christians" Justin Bieber and Kevin Durant at his church. Durant openly admitted he's not Christian but friends with Lentz and agreed to do an interview with Groeschell's false church and got a nice pay day out of it.

It was awfully hypocritical of them...heck, they backed everything else...why not Graham!?!

Billy taught false teachers Robert Schuller and Carl Lentz how to gain fake celebrity "Christians" to attend their church. Schuller's Glass House in the 70's had actors, members of rock bands, athletes etc attend his church and claim they were Christian which they weren't. Lentz claimed to have gotten Justin Bieber and Kevin Durant saved but Durant came out and admitted he's not Christian but got a nice pay day from Lentz and Hellsong to be seen together and do an interview sermon series for another false teacher Craig Groeschel and his superficial "Life.Church" and Durant got a pay day out of that. Plus online, TMZ leaked photos of Lentz and Bieber drinking liquor together and Howard Stern slammed Lentz and called him out as being gay as he's seen Lentz in New York gay bars.

So Jack Hyles, Tony Hutson, and Jack Trieber were justified in their criticism of Graham.

Maybe Jack Hyles and Billy Graham have made peace since they're both in heaven now. Hyles was extremely critical of Graham for having fake celebrity Christians at his crusades. TBN also hopped on the fake celebrity Christian bandwagon and so does Hellsong but Kevin Durant came out and admitted it since he got a payday from Hellsong and from false teacher Craig Groeschell for doing an interview at his church for a sermon series. Yes Groeschell had a sermon series based on an interview he did with Durant.

According to this article (see first link), BGEA removed the Morons from their cult list shortly after Billy Graham met with Mitt Romney, who was running for President - there is no mention of his meeting with Glenn Beck. It appears to be well documented that BGEA did remove Moronism from their list of cults. The Reformation Charlotte article implies, but does not document, that this was done as a result of Billy's meeting with Glenn.

Billy Graham and the “cult” fiasco – Mormonism Research Ministry (mrm.org)

These articles allege that Billy Graham affirmed that Glenn Beck, as a Moron believer, could be considered a Christian.
