Yeah exactly! This goes to show how decrepit our society is. When courts allow a provision for a defendant to say, "I'm not admitting guilt but you'll likely convict me based on the evidence." How stupid have we become?

The head scratcher for me is someone taking the rap (fines/imprisonment) for a crime they contend they didn't commit. We don't have a nolo contendere plea in Canada, but I can see the rationale behind it. A defendant may believe himself not guilty of a crime, but cannot contest the charges, so he enters a no contest plea--not admitting guilt, but admitting he cannot defend himself against the charge. It also protects him in a resulting civil suit, because typically it cannot be used against him by a plaintiff as an admission of guilt, as a guilty plea could be.
