Has the IFB movement gone to pot???

I have to say that I've not experienced any of what most complain about concerning the IFB. My church does not have membership with an IFB convention or rhe like. I do know there are IFB wing nuts out there especially the New IFB with that Anderson guy. I consider all that as a Democrat considers Republicans white supremacist simply because racist democrats say so & many white supremacist consider themselves republican. We could rup apart every single denomination there is. Truth is there have been fake Christians, antichrists & wolf's in sheep's clothing for over 2,000 years.

When I left the southern Baptist church I went to an IFB one of a very few. Yes, it was different, it held to the old fashioned way of this mountain community. I'd like to say it hadn't progressed but I can't. They adhere to every word of God & use the KJV only. Old fashioned hymnal, piano & 1 acoustic guitar. That was different, no more full choir with every instrument you could think of, no jumbo tron screens, non of that. Rather than listen to a preacher that tickled my ears with boring messages that had no conviction this preacher preached the truth which I love. Simple messages with simple mountain language that didn't require a 4 year college degree. Congregants that loved the Lord and not in rush to run you over to get home.

I've read of the complaints of the KJV & that is up to everyone, all I know is that it's as close as it gets in my English language without having to take things out in order to translate into progressive language every decade or less. Women's attire, I heard women were not allowed in shorts or dresses above the knee. How I wish that was true but I have not seen that as I have seen a few women wearing short skirts showing all that leg. My wife occasionally wears camo pants to evening service. Men wear anything from dress shirts & jeans to t shirts & overalls. Never heard of a ban on dancing or even TV although it sounds good to me.

I've been to almost every denomination there is in many states. I've heard many a preacher from various denominations knock the other denominations as well of church members do it to each other. We slam each other on doctrines to where it gets so vile that one side will claim that you must not be saved. If I attended a church that did that I'd leave it. I have no problem in calling a calvanist my brother or sister or one who does not believe in pre-trib rapture as my brother or sister. I believe God is a healing God and that we should pray more for God's miracles in the church but my church doesn't go to the extreme, that don't mean I have to leave.

I believe that the spirit of judas is in every church and it has ramped up as not only the outside is against us but also those within. Not every church has all born again Spirit filled believers, many are on that broad road that leads to destruction. I'm convinced as it gets worse the closer we are to Jesus coming back. Our worst enemy is progressivism & liberalism as many believers adapt to social conditioning & justice where what was evil last year is really not that bad & is now good. I hear complaints against certain churches & the IFB for separation. Come on! That is scriptural but to those who live for compromise say it is just old fashioned. Not many find or stay on the narrow path and it's no wonder that Christ will say to many of us "I never knew you". Rather than tear each other down we had better get on our knees & pray for wisdom because many of us are being decieved especially in social media & MSM. I won't for a second try & justify any condemnation of any Christian church or denomination especially when it seems to be a constant on a lack of liberal progressivism in that church. I'm sure there are true & proven claims of other things such as certain individuals in the IFB or other denominations but I don't have those facts & the congregations will sort it out if not God will. We better wake up & pray, we've been successfully divided in this country and now it is in the body of the church, I'll not be a part of it

Welcome to the forum.☺️ What part of KY are you from?

Your introductory post in the forum is an interesting one. You seem to have the old-school IFB beliefs (KJV, anti-SBC, etc) but at the same time you seem to be pretty passionate about getting along with other denoms and camps that aren't exactly like yours (Calvinists, non-pretrib, etc). That's an interesting mix.

Well, we all are considered old school at some point and there ain't nothing wrong with that unless one be a progressive that learns to compromise & tolerate. If one believes in the gospel of Jesus Christ that same doctrine of the apostles which include Paul I have no problem what denomination they are. Sure it gets uncomfortable around some at times but the Holy Spirit will work it out. If it weren't for Jimmy Swaggert ( the only Christian show on overseas) back in the day I would have never been saved and never been healed of cancer. I don't run with that crowd but I know I have some brothers & sisters over there. The Lord ran me through that bunch & then sent me out just as He did the Southern Baptists.

Last IFB Church I was a member of was actually a pretty good congregation but there were still a few "IFB-isms" that were a little much for this PTSD-suffering Ex-IFBx type plus my wife at the time (now ex) was really chafing against the "Faith-Promise Missions" among a few other things. I had already preached a couple times and would've likely became a deacon there but we left for a more "Sparkly, Contemporary" ministry which was pretty dumb looking back now with 20/20 hindsight.

I am now a Deacon in an Elder-Led Southern Baptist Church with a lady who is the love of my life! My pastor (and our eldership) has kicked around the possibility of pulling out of the SBC and I have told them they have my support so long as they don't start following "THAT CROWD" of which most here as well as our pastor and elders are well familiar!

Many IFBers are borderline Charismatic, Prosperity-Gospel preaching semi-pelagians who are very much biblically illiterate! Tell them I said so.

I came to this forum after doing a study on the IFB because I had heard some considered our church a cult simply because it is KJV only. I until recently used various translations until I found things changed, left out or added since I use the greek also. We read exclusively from the KJV in church and Sunday school. As far as border line charasmatic, prosperity gospel and all the other stuff I've been reading about is inaccurate where I go. In fact it is the same as the southern Baptist as we used to attend. The one thing that I found and enjoyed is the freedom to occasionally shout. I started some 40 years ago in a noisy old pentacostal country church and it somewhat the same. The SBC we were absolutely quiet, the preacher never preached with conviction & I thought I was bad because it was quite boring. Never heard an AMEN or an interruption during praise of one sobbing to make a testimony. Some SBC's had a tithe passing before service, last one just had a box on the way out. At this IFB it is just an offering and you can come up and give. So I'm horrified at what I have read from others in my research and have to wonder if I attend a fluke of an IFB church that has no affiliation with any convention or leadership body and does not have all the strange laws & rules that supposedly traumatized so many or.........is it the human nature of the flesh that hates authority of any kind. Is it the refusal of old fashioned worship, the preaching against sin & the flesh that when it finds us out with conviction that bothers us, church rules ( unfortunately we don't have, such as dress code), is it teaching & preaching out of the KJV which many of us still believe is 99% accurate translation in the English language, is it the hymnal and lack of many musical instruments ( that I wish were different), is it just the fact that the church won't slowly creep in to progressivism to look more like world and accept things we wouldn't have never accepted before, 5 years, 10, 20 even 50 years. I remember a mega sbc church in Kalifornia that had an area where lesbians gathered, they had a homosexual city where they had gay churches that were quite militant & re-imaged God to fit themselves, prosperity churches, tickle your ears motivational churches of positivity and of course you could bring your service dog because you had PTSD from attending those "old fashioned churches" that upset you. Just have to wonder whether we choose a church that caters to us & makes us feel good and those that we talk junk about are because of Holy Spirit conviction or as we all know will be false churches. Either way I can't judge another church, denominationbor even a preacher unless I have the facts or the Holy Spirits gives me discernment. I've attended a few different denominations where I learned something & the Spirit said it was time to leave, it was maturing. I've been to fake churches that I had to actually escape & evade because they were cultic fruit loops. I thank God our preacher doesn't get up and talk junk about the assembly of God church down at the end of the holler or the primitive Baptist church that teach a form of calvanism not even against the only catholic church in the county.

Something’s just a bit off here, but I will wait patiently and see.😊

Nothing wrong with KJV Only so long is it is borne out of sincere love for God's word, that you are taking in HIS word, hiding it in your heart, and allowing it to perform its work in your life. If this is where you are, I have no interest or desire in changing you. I would encourage you to remain faithful in the study and understanding of his word.

I got a very deep appreciation for the Word of God during my time as an IFB in a KJVO environment and it is something I will never relinquish. I PREFER my KJV today and I teach and preach out of it almost exclusively and will likely continue to do so for the rest of my life. I am confident that I could go in and preach in your average KJVO Church (aside from knot-heads like Steven Anderson, Ruckmanites, and Hyles Sycophants but I digress) and no one would be the wiser that my position was any different from theirs. For study, my main "Alexandrian" version of choice is the ESV and I also use a NKJV.

If pressed, I simply state that my position on inspiration, preservation, and inerrancy is not limited to a single translation of the English Bible! Of course, the cat is usually out of the bag by then but I have no time for foolish children who refuse to behave themselves anyway.

The "SBC" Church out in Kalifornia you are referring to IS NOT a Church that any genuine Christian should ever feel comfortable in. You need to leave and let God bring his judgment upon that mess. There are many good Churches in California that have not yet bowed their knees to Baal. Find one and support it.

They're smoking what in IFB churches now!?

😁

*runs and hides*

They used to be known for their love of the word of God. Now they're known for their dresses, suits, old hymns, no powerpoint, invitation at the end of the service, and no drums.
Nothing wrong with sticking with those things...and they SHOULD love the word of God. Point is..when they start putting in extra-Biblical BS and trying to add it in as Gospel or necessity, they're full of manure. I liked and still like the "old way" of doing things. I NEVER have like the extra Biblical garbage!

I, too, still PREFER my KJV over other translations because I grew up with it and am more comfortable with it than any other translation. I've preached from it, studied from it, witnessed to people using it, and led people to the Lord out of it for over 50 years. Is it acceptable that some say it's the only version that should be used in the rejecting of all others, even to the point of driving people away because of the fanaticism of the position? No, it's not. I've led people to the Lord out of the hippie Bible. As long as the Word of God is there to present the Gospel, it is good for reproof, salvation, instruction in righteousness, etc.

You betcha! It's as we mature, pray for wisdom in the Word we begin to see. I studied out of an NIV study bible for years, wrote all kinds of notes in that thing that are precious to me. I dropped it right after I got the Blue Line Bible app and had a quicker access to the Greek. It was there I discovered I best stick with the KJV & Greek for study. Ain't no way I talk down to anyone that uses another version, that ain't my place even though I've had others tell me I need to get away from that old fuddy duddy book that nobody can understand

They used to be known for their love of the word of God. Now they're known for their dresses, suits, old hymns, no powerpoint, invitation at the end of the service, and are often dressed differently than our average member but they are always welcome. I don't remember ever have someone dressed in any way that we asked them. The members of our church still wear dresses and skirts but we have many who chose to wear pants.

We have screens but generally do not use them in the regular service.

We do always have an invitation at the end of every service, and the alter is often filled. People get saved and some get baptized on a regular basis

We don't have a praise band or drums, but we do have special music each and every service that glorifies God and speaks to my heart.

We do encourage church members to share the gospel through out the community

We do still have services 3 times a week plus prayer meeting, visitation, soul winning time, missionary society and many other events in given week.

None of that causes us to "love the word" as you said any more or less nor do any of these things bring any special favor with God. We do these things because this is how we choose to organize our church and live our lives. Since we are independent Baptist we answer to no outside organization or committee nor do we expect any other church or organization to conform to us. We live and operate the way we believe God would have us live.

I respect everyone's right to have their own convictions and interpretations of the bible and to make their own choices, that is why I choose to be independent.

Your argument that because we don't do certain things we must no longer love the word smacks as Post hoc ergo propter hoc.

Many of the IFB churches in our area have started to become "less than kosher" in their stands. I mean, many were bad before, teaching the views of men as the doctrines of the Bible, but many nowadays are truly going off the wall. I have had several people tell me that they left an IFB church in the area just a few months back to visit other IFB churches, and they all have seemed to become "teachers of the LAW" and not teachers of grace. One lady wore slacks to a Wednesday evening service, and the assistant pastor's wife pulled the woman aside after the service and called her out on "looking and dressing like a tramp!" That was the final straw for this couple, and they joined the largest church in our area...World Outreach Church. World Outreach IS NOT IFB...it's non-denominational. Pastor Allen Jackson is a very good speaker. The couple feel "right at home" there, and are getting involved slowly but surely. They weren't allowed to become involved in the IFB churches because the husband had been divorced, and the wife had had two children out of wedlock before she married her husband. What is this wolrd, and the IFB churches coming to? So legalistic that they remind me of the Pharisees of Christs day!
My wife wears a backless dress with John 3:16 tattooed on her back. I wonder if that church would welcome her into membership?
