I very seriously doubt that anyone is exempt from this. My parents didn't live up to "fundamental standards". In fact, I personally don't know anyone that does. Don't think I ever have.

I don't think I have to use the word that this "describes".....

My mother loved Conway Twitty. I mean she LOVED him. The wife of the pastor..... that preached the message the night I received Christ.... LOVED Elvis. I mean LOVED Elvis.

In fact, I don't think this is an isolated issue. Most of the time, if you can get a fundy to "let down" their guard or pretense..... they pretty much would tell you the same things.

What about you? What is your experience?

Exactly right.
Because "standards" are a pretense, no one actually lives by the ones they preach.
The Spirit never led them to create standards, so they aren't grieving Him when they don't follow them.  So they freely violate what they will, with a clear conscience.
The Fundamentalist movement allowed for the return of the Nicolaitans.  Standards all for the purpose of conquering the laity.  I look better than you, therefore I am.  So, you should follow me unquestionably.
Look back at Women's Temperance, for an example.
The denominations that sprinkle babies have many unregenerated members.
The Evangelist with the best list of external measures by which to judge the lost from the sheep, would have the best results.
Like all liberalism, it always advances, so by the time we got to the IFB movement of the mid 70's, we had adopted every denominations standards, added them all up, and come up with a rule book the size of the NT by which to adhere.
As long as any group continues to promote "great" men, and annoint one elder as church-king, they will eventually have to use external control factors to keep the flock in the line at the slaughter house.

If I remember correctly, Elvis has been laid aside. ;D

Mine lived up to the standard.  Total IFB, all the way in every way.  They were at home exactly what the IFB claims to be, in every way.

and still are

It was just a nice example....There are others.

I'm not sure I understand what you are looking for when you ask, "What about you?  What is your experience?"  My "experience" is spending time each day with my 94-year-old mother.

The lady who carried, delivered, nourished, bathed, soothed, taught and loved you may have some short-comings, but she probably loves you more than her own life.

I was making it personal. I wasn't bash my parents... or your parents. It's just a fact that fundies don't live up to their own standards.

I get the point of the OP.  Many IFB teens walk away from church and claim the double standard in their parents lives as an reason.  I really do think a parent should live what they support at church, whatever that is.

Mine did and still do.

Is it a "fact" because it is your experience?  I was not reared in an IFB home, but I assume most parents fall short of living right, whether they are IFB or not.

I agree. The issue is more associated with pretending one doesn't.

We never pretended with our kids. When we failed they were usually the first to know and the first we apologized to. "Confessing one to another" does not exclude your children.

When my oldest was about 12 I asked her if she could just give me general absolution. Since I made most of my parenting mistakes on her I figured it would save us both a lot of time!  ;)

My parents did live what they believed. Looking back, I currently and adamantly disagree with some of the things they believed/did at the time but I can say they were as consistent at home as they appeared at HAC. My beef here is with the system which indoctrinated them than it is with them personally.

Being "real" goes a long way!!! I ask my children to forgive me. It seems to happen more often the older I get... :)

My parents were nominally Christian, but in practice not really religious at all, They didn't know anything about "fundamental standards", and wouldn't have cared.

The net result is that I was left to my own devices spiritually, which in the long run probably worked out for the best. At least I didn't have a lot to unlearn or rebel against.
