Jerry Falwell

I remember as a kid watching The Old Time Gospel Hour. I was fascinated by the lady in the circle - didn't really pay any attention to the man talking.

Jerry Falwell was a visionary and at the forefront in many areas.
He began the LU School of Life Long Learning, one of the first online options for higher education. In the beginning they mailed VHS tapes to the students.
In my opinion when it’s all said and done he will have a greater impact on the Kingdom than most of his peers because of the growth and continuing legacy of Liberty University.

And I know he was a flawed human as are those who lead Liberty.

So was King David flaw, we all are

Jerry Falwell occasionally said dumb things. Remember the whole thing about the Teletubbies? But he was never embroiled in any serious personal scandals, unlike many of his televangelist contemporaries.

Pity his son didn't learn the lesson.

When he came out with that, I wondered if he thought he didn't have anything better to do with his time.

@Ransom - I mean, maybe Jerry had a point after all. 🤪

I remember when Hurricane Katrina hit and a whole bunch of TV preachers said it was the judgment of God on New Orleans for Bourbon Street and Mardi Gras, but when asked his opinion on that possibility Falwell essentially said that's something nobody can answer with certainty, but that natural disasters like the hurricanes, tsunami and the earthquake should spur people to repentance and holy living.

Balanced, that’s what I remember about the man.

There was also the time he blamed gays, abortionists, feminists and civil libertarians for 9/11. Still silly--not that he could know with any certainty who earned God's ire--but in that instance, at least he was on firmer theological ground.

I did not nominate Jerry for FFF Sainthood. Merely giving honor to whom I think honor is due.

If I nominated anyone for FFF Sainthood it would likely be buS or the Duckster.
