John 3:16

I only wear black rimmed glasses; I don't want to give a worldly appearance. ( sadly, I visited a church once that taught this.)

Viscous?  What does viscosity have to do with rumors?  How fast they run around?

It is how we get to the slippery slope you are always hearing about.

My wife LOVES IBC root beer.  :)

I car pool with a female co-worker.  I don't make rules for other people where the Bible is silent.  Men in public ministry often hold to higher scruples for obvious reasons (like Billy Graham), and as long as they don't attempt to act self-righteous or impose their own convictions for such personal choices on others then it's all good.

He's not an idiot.

A mutant from another planet, maybe, but not an idiot.  No real human earthling doesn't like root beer.

I don't live my life in fear of rumors, because the truth that could be told about me is worse.

Story:

I once offered a girl who was hitch-hiking, a ride.
She became irate, when she discovered that I picked her up because she was walking on a highway, not because I knew she was a prostitute.
She demanded that I stop the car and let her out, where she immediately began hitch-hiking again.
I wasn't sheltered going up, but walking down 80/94 meant that you were having car trouble, when I was a kid...

Worse story:

A lady flagged me down, asking for a ride, a block from the building our church met in.
I was out street-witnessing, on an inner-city street, a main avenue of commerce.
There was a man who hawked various wares on the corner, who was there every day. I had witnessed to him, and given him a ride once, several miles down the street.
I thought this lady was trying to get away from some trouble, so I let her in.
She began asking me about "dating", and if I was a cop.
I pulled right back around the block, and dropped her where I picked her up.
The man on the corner who was always animated, loudly repeating slogans, as he waved various signs or merchandise around, (and quite entertaining, I might add), made a lewd gesture to me, as I drove by, suggesting that he suspected the nature of my goodwill attempt, of being exactly what it looked like to everyone.

Weird story:
I was propositioned once, by a lady in church, who told me she had to get something off of her chest.
She wanted to talk to me alone.
We stepped into an area that wasn't enclosed, and people could walk by and see us.
She may have been wanting me to invite her to my office, in retrospect.
Either way, she proceeded to tell me that she couldn't live with her secret lust for me anymore, blah, blah, blah.
I hadn't spoken to her before, except for times when she was with her husband, who I was friends with, so, of course, I had no idea this was coming.
I told her that I wasn't interested at all in her, or anyone else, and then told her that I was going to tell my wife about the conversation, as well as "the pastor".

I already feel uncomfortable talking to a lady one on one, alone, so none of these situations helped.

Like I said, when you are actually an ex-con, like I am, you really don't worry about rumors, since they can't hold a candle to the truth.
So, I may be a little careless....

What's so wonderful is upon salvation...all that bad passed away and has nothing to do with your new life in Christ.
You are a new creature living for him now. Part of Gods purpose is you hang out with all of his children without reservation.

"Purpose" and "hang out" hardly belong together.

Don't you know? Jesus was always "hanging out" with sinners and tax collectors. It is amazing He got anything else done what with all the parties He had to go to to be relevant.  8)

Yep, spot on. Amazing what you learn on these boards  ;D

I believe it to be a lot like many different things.  I know that you never question the integrity of your pastor or your wife and that is WONDERFUL.  It shows you have a lot of trust in them both and they have earned a lot or respect from you.

Me being a married man.....I would never put myself in a position that would lead the devil to believe he has a chance at tempting me...or put myself in a position that would make it easier than it already is for the devil to tempt me.  So I would likely at the very least have taken another brother with me like your pastor did...had I been put in that situation.  I would have tried to have my wife go along if at all possible.

I may have been wrong....but I feel I wasn't.  One day on my way home from work...I see a car on the side of the road with a flat.  I will usually pull off and try to assist anyone with this problem.  As I got closer I saw that it was an attractive young woman.  I didn't think twice...I just kept driving and went on home.

It was a clear day...no rain....and she was on a cell phone.  So I knew she was able to get in contact with help.  I chose not to stop....because I didn't want anyone to be able to say..."I saw bo on the side of the road talkin to some pretty girl" and that mess get back around to my wife.

I also would not dance with anyone but my wife.  None of this barn dancing and switching off partners.....1 small step in a bad direction.

That's just me thou.....I caint tell anyone else what to do.

Angels unawares unless they are pretty and female.

I've had my many moments of similar failures for sure, but this sounds like the actions of the Priest and Levite in the Good Samaritan parable. There is a good probability they were more worried about their reputation (breaking the OT Law when it came to cleanliness) than stopping to help. (I wouldn't rule out fear, either.)

Oh, and I always tell my wife beforehand. I have nothing to hide and she has nothing to worry about.

Those kind of angels are not 'unawares'. Ask Charlie:

Those in Christ are free indeed. Those in fundamentalism are...?

And He let a prostitute fondle His feet IN PUBLIC!  :o

How did that affect His testimony?

Yes it does. How else do you spread the gospel except by hanging out with them?
