Hey, if he is advocating that Barry Soetoro return to Kenya, I don't know that I would knock it.  :)  It is possible that Trump would even donate the one-way ticket.

I like him, too, in a lot of things.  Good on marital counseling, abstinence from alcohol, and personal responsibility.  Lots of good, practical things; but obviously we have some theological differences.  But Sherry, doesn't his preaching style remind you a lot of the old Bro. Hyles?  It sounds very similar to me.  Much of his "Woman, Thou Art Loosed!" is reminiscent of "Woman, The Completer."

Also, he is from WV.  Gotta love those Mountain Preachers!

I'm a po boy and I'd contribute to that fund.

Since I'm dark enough and vaguely Asian looking, I'm sometimes mistaken for a Filipina.

My opinion is that the Zimmerman jury reached the legally correct verdict.

Thanks Izdaari.  If you know of any active African-American participants in this forum please ask them to post on this thread.  No surprise on your agreeing with the verdict.

That I agree with the verdict doesn't mean I don't think it's a terrible tragedy that could have been avoided had Martin and/or Zimmerman made better choices.

But still, IMO Zimmerman satisfied all the legal requirements for a justifiable self-defense shooting, and except for political pressure, would and should never have even been charged.

Right. Jakes can preach up a storm when he's in good form. But he does have some theological problems, mainly in the areas of trinitarianism (since he's from a Oneness Pentecostal background) and prosperity gospel (since he's all buddy-buddy with the WoF'ers).

Thanks for the response BC.  I am afraid that you may not understand that African-Americans are proud of their heritage both the Pan-African aspect and the North American aspect.  We are not willing to ignore the struggles or the contributions that our ancestors and your ancestors have made to what we are today.  This should be understandable since we see an example of this when Israel is gathered back together in the last days.  Christians cheered Israelis returning to Israel and identifying with their ethnic heritage but seem to be put off by African-Americans doing the same.  I don't understand and really did not start this thread to discuss this or any other situation.

If you know of any African-American active participants on this forum please ask them to post on this thread.  Thanks.

NO.  Seriously.  It is time to stop identifying people by skin tone.  Appreciate history, fine.  Call a travesty of humanity a travesty of humanity, fine.  However, stop attacking segments of America for the events in history.  I have grown weary of people identifying themselves as victims African-Americans (fixed).  It is time we identify ourselves as people.  Any society in any nation has different segments with different heritages and different possibilities.  However, this is America in 2013.  A black man reared by a single mother can become President.  A white man from poverty and a blended home can become President.  A black woman who grew up in the Birmingham race riots and had close friends die in the church bombings can become Secretary of State.  A college kid can come up with an idea and become one of the wealthiest people in the world.  Let people be people.  Stop mandating that those of a certain skin tone fit into a pre-determined social behavior and social paradigm. (fixed)

No one is talking about being a victim BC.  No one is mandating anything.  Thanks and if you know of any African-Americans that are active posters on this forum please ask them to respond on this thread.

How about you take a look at the "Open season ..." thread and tell me how that speaks to my dignity as a human being and the young lady's dignity as a human being in the last post.  Please post your comment on that thread about that thread.  This one has been taken far enough off subject already.

Not off target.  You are wanting to start a thread only for people of a certain skin tone.  I disagree with this mindset because I am against segregation.  Why not allow all people to participate in your thread?  Why does the opinion of only a certain skin tone mean more to you than that of others with a different skin tone?  It is time to stop segregating yourself.

Thanks for your responses.  I thought from the spirit of the posts in recent days that like the rest of the IFB African-Americans were in a minority or absent here.  All of your remarks have been enlightening.  Thank you for your participation.

Do you feel sufficiently oppressed and discriminated against now?

You're not IFB at all. You may attend a IFB church but you're certainly not sharing what you really believe with its members.

Try reading Extraordinary, Ordinary People.  We are people, not victims.

How about another experiment.  Why don't you guys print up this thread the gz thread and let your African-American friends ( I know you all have some  ;) ) to read it.  Choose some "friends" that are not affiliated with the IFB churches (It should be easy).  Watch their facial expression as they read.  Ask them what they honestly think about the exchange.  Then invite them to come and post their opinion of both threads on the thread.  You may be surprised.  :o

CU I actually may have lost a friend over it yesterday.  But a friend who is not willing to empathize is not a friend at all.

BC you are the only one talking about being a victim.

If I did that, I'd have to give it some context first.  I'd have to show them the long Zimmerman thread where you lied and misrepresented the facts repeatedly in order to justify your views.

You shouldn't have lost a friend over something so trivial. Friendship works both ways GT. BOTH WAYS. Just because you're unwilling to have a friend that doesn't have a "black guilt" complex, doesn't mean your "former friend" isn't right. You're really wallowing in this.

I don't expect you to agree with me. I do believe you should respect the opposing view. I have grown extremely tired of blanket racism charges being thrown around. I'm not going to pull any punches and tell you its all everyone else's problem. Deal with your own. We all have problems. We all have problems with interacting with various cultures and personalities. I have it. You have it. Don't pretend your perfect and beyond reproach.

Your attitude reminds of those in

Luk 7:32  They are like unto children sitting in the marketplace, and calling one to another, and saying, We have piped unto you, and ye have not danced; we have mourned to you, and ye have not wept.

Fine.  Maybe I am using "victim" too much.  However, I am against the mentality that we are who we are because of our skin tone.  I am against the mentality that we are who we are because of our upbringing.  Christ makes us a new man and the Holy Spirit gives us a new heart.  We are God's children now, not the children of a social strata.  I am against the "Us against Them" mentality that is being promoted across the airwaves.  We are all Us.

I choose not to post on the Open Season thread because the original statement calls for wanton violence against humanity.  Look, telling people to go hurt themselves or others is wrong.  It matters not if it is an anonymous poster on a predominantly religious thread or a professional athlete tweeting his emotions.  Declaring that one person should be beaten or killed or raped or otherwise harmed because you think they did not receive as harsh of a punishment as you believe they should is wrong.  It matters not if you are discussing a Latin security guard or a white preacher or a black activist.

If we want society to recognize all segments of society as one people, the transition needs to begin by no longer identifying ourselves as segments of society.

Your comment is patently insulting and condescending.  I am no where near a child and have no guilt complex.  I have no problem with the guy being wrong but I think he may have a problem with me.  I have never stopped being anyone's friend because we disagree.  I have endured insult after insult on this forum and I am still here.  Since I know who and what I am your comments are disappointing but not totally unexpected at this point.  I have not once that I can remember assaulted your character.  I have dealt with the subject only.  You have not afforded me the same courtesy.

It was not a call for anything.  Marlon Wayans predicted wanton violence, non-blacks against black people caused by the Zimmerman verdict.  I find that such a stupid statement that I satirically requested people to notify me when this holocaust shows up in the statistics.  It won't show up, of course.  Marlon Wayans is simply a racist and attempted to stir things up.

Conduct the experiment BC and ask your "friends" if their being African-Americans plays any significant part in they way they are treated and expected to interact with society.  You might be surprised.
