Assuming the proper method of church discipline is followed, yes. Whether restoration and repentance occur (the intended outcome), or disfellowship (still in hopes of reconciliation, repentance, and restoration), obedience by Christ’s church always “works”, regardless of pragmatism.

What's to work or not to work? If you can reconcile a sinning brother and he repents, good. If not, protect the church.

It's not really a "process" (which suggests a more theoretical approach to me), so much as a practical set of steps.
