It's interesting how various non-anthem protest reasons are always put forward to explain a decline in ratings. This time it's the premiere of a new Star Trek show and a lopsided NFL contest.

I think it's because Tebow is playing baseball.  ;D

Dick Morris makes some good points. Even though I don't agree with the violence and property damage caused by the protest in St. Louis (and in other places), there is at least a reason behind the protest. The NFL anthem protest seem to be vague statement against something that the players don't like about the country. He creates a huge uproar without having any real foundation.

Wait, someone seriously tried to argue that nerds tanked the NFL's ratings?

And when the Emmy awards tanked last weekend, what was to blame for that? Spongebob Squarepants?

No, it's simply a fact that viewers don't want their entertainment politicized, and will take their viewership elsewhere.

LOL. So true. The NFL isn't exactly a Comic-Con crowd.

Is there a better source than deadline?

Various small samplings of studies/polls (JD Powers most recently) have suggested that people are tuning out due to the protests.

Interesting how NFL jersey for Villanueva, the one Steelers player who stood for the anthem, is the fastest selling NFL jersey for any player in the last 24 hours.

Consider the source:  :)

Those racist jersey buyers...

Did Tomlinson take a jab at Villanueva?

As hard is it may be I have committed to not watch or attend another NFL game until the league deals with this. I have spoken to a dozen people or more that have said the same thing.

I completely respect and would fight to defend a person?s right to protest or speak out. I also stand on my right not support or do business with those who use those rights to disrespect things I hold dear. The flag and the national anthem are symbols of our great nation and represent the great sacrifices that were made so that we would have our many freedoms. The flag should not be drug into or used as a symbol of division.

If the NFL players wants to exercise their first amendment rights on their own time then so be it, but as employees of the NFL owners they can be restricted from such activities that may negatively effect the team or its profits. If they want to speak their mind, why don't they buy ad time with their millions and speak out. They could financially support organizations that are seeking solutions to our nation?s problems. They say this has nothing to do with patriotism.  If it?s not about patriotism then don't stage your protest during the national anthem, do it just before the kickoff or before the coin toss or better yet on their own time. The millions of viewers of the NFL don?t want politics mixed in with their favorite pastimes. I would lose my job in 30 seconds if I publically protested like that on company time or while wearing a company logo.

NFL ratings are way down for many reasons but I believe many are tuning out due to this issue. I believe this disrespectful drama will cost the NFL millions of dollars.

Not another dime from me until this is resolved.

Let's be fair about the NFL.

They are paid entertainers.

When they come on the field, I pay them to play.

I don't pay them to protest, pray, support the military, support cops, etc.

Wanna do any of those things? Do it on YOUR time.

What I found ironic is that some Detroit Lions took a knee and the owner spoke out against Trump.

As if they even have a national stage!

Send a drone up in their air from Ford Field and you will see devastation left behind by black Democrats.

So true. Over the years, billions of dollars in tax subsidies has gone into building NFL stadiums. It could have spent on roads and bridges where it was actually needed.

What condemns the NFL even more was their refusal to allow the Dallas Cowboys to wear a sticker in commemoration of the deaths of 5 Texas policemen last year. This smacks of an agenda to cater to a certain demographic of people.

Black Lives Matter movement is destroying all of the enjoyable aspects of our culture and entertainment. It is backfiring.
